Good afternoon NFU-NB members and supporters!  

Please find below a series of events and ways you can take action over the next few weeks.  In case you missed it, NB farmer Murray Bunnett was interview on CBC Moncton's Information morning speaking about the risks of GM alfalfa.  Listen here.  Or read the article here.  Murray calls on everyone to take action: "I think consumers need to get on board and talk to government and say, speak up more and say that we don't want this, so the government knows from people that they are not interested," he said.  Read on below for more information how you can contact Minister MacAulay

We invite all organizations, producer associations, companies and community groups to sign on to this letter.

On April 20, 2016 a group of 15 farm organizations wrote to the federal Minister of Agriculture, to ask for action to stop the further release of genetically modified (GM) alfalfa seeds.

Farm to Cafeteria Canada and Cé D'ici would like to invite you to our first Farm to School Learning Lab which will be held on Friday May 27th, 2016 in Fredericton at Cé D'Ici.

We're excited to bring together the community of practice (teachers, food suppliers, food distributors, school meal coordinators, chefs, community agents and others responsible for school food) to support and scale up existing local food programs at the school level.

De la Ferme à la Caféteria Canada et Cé D'ici vous inviter à notre premier laboratoire d’apprentissage De la ferme à l’école, qui aura lieu le vendredi 27 mai 2016 au Céd’ici à Fredericton.

Nous sommes impatients de rassembler la communauté de pratique (enseignants, fournisseurs et distributeurs de produits alimentaires, coordinateurs de repas scolaires, chefs cuisiniers, agents communautaires et autres responsables de programmes alimentaires scolaires) dans le but d’appuyer et d’améliorer les programmes d’alimentation scolaire locale existants.

From the Council of Canadians

Note that the NFU co-sponsored a speaking tour with Ben Gotschall, a farmer and pipeline activist from Nebraska, in the prairies last spring. 

The Energy East pipeline is our risk, their reward. That’s the message of a series of free town halls, hosted by the Council of Canadians, taking place from May 24 to 27 in Chipman, Belleisle Bay, Hampton and Saint John.

The events will present new information on TransCanada’s pipeline safety record, New Brunswick waterways at risk from a diluted bitumen spills, and landowner experiences in effectively challenging the company’s Keystone XL pipeline project.

SPEAKERS:

  • Ben GotschallAgriculture and Food Director at Bold Nebraska: on the successful efforts of Nebraskan landowners to defend their rights, land and water from TransCanada’s Keystone XL pipeline.
  • Alma Brooks of the Peace and Friendship Alliance: on the growing Peace and Friendship Alliance, bringing together Indigenous peoples with New Brunswick residents in the defence of our land and water and how Energy East is more risk than reward for New Brunswick.
  • Mark D’Arcy of the Council of Canadians: on the Energy East project, TransCanada’s Canadian pipeline safety track record, diluted bitumen spills, New Brunswick waterways and how people can help challenge Energy East.
