A Mentor to Admire:
Tom Kennedy

Good leaders create followers
Great leaders create more leaders.

"The delicate balance of mentoring someone is not creating them in your own image, but giving them the opportunity to create themselves.” Steven Spielberg

Tom Kennedy was recognized a few years ago with Athena International’s Leadership Award, which is extremely prestigious and celebrates the leadership of women.  This honor was bestowed upon him because of his dedication to leadership and advocacy for women entrepreneurs.  Kennedy, who is the chief executive of Professional Development Associates, is a founding member of Erie's Athena programs, which are recognized as one of the most successful suite of Athena programs in the country. He has also been recognized for his mentorship and entrepreneurial successes by Ernst & Young, the former National City Bank, and Gannon University.

"Tom is a consummate advocate and mentor for entrepreneurs, women's advocacy and the entire region." - Linda Stevenson, Director ATHENA Erie/ATHENA PowerLink and board director for Athena International

"Choosing the right partner is probably the most important decision of any business person. Not only must one select someone who is ethical and of strong values, but one must select someone who can help create and share a vision, provide complimentary and predictable strengths, and bring energy to the relationship. Tom brings that and more!” Chuck Peters, Managing Member, Altair Holdings, LLC

One of Tom’s business partners, Donna Haskins, shares that his 'vision' is largely what makes him the inspiring mentor that he is.  When approached with ideas, his ability to understand and expand upon those concepts until they are fully developed, is unparalleled. While taking over the Palace Business Centre, he created a replicable plan that others can model after for similar projects.

She also jokes that Tom is afflicted with 'Business A.D.D.' He is always starting new projects in new places!

"What is most admirable," says Haskins, "is that with all that going on, he still finds ways to avail himself to the community, speaking with students and encouraging others, just for the sake of giving back."  When asked what her definition of a mentor was she provided me with a quote, “The way you see people is the way you treat them, and the way you treat them is what they become,” (Johann Wolfgang von Goethe).

We can all agree that Tom Kennedy, one of Erie's most elite mentors, has a vision for Erie and will do what it takes to help people succeed and help their visions come to life.

Join us to encourage more positive influencers in our area... people like Tom Kennedy, who mentor others and see to it that we, and our region, reach our potential.
Congrats to the 2016 Creative Entrepreneurs of the Year!
