Erie and the Rise of Crowdfunding

Mercyhurst's Quickstarter: Recently, Erie has seen the rise of many successfully launched crowdfunding campaigns on Kickstarter. This is largely due to the behind the scenes efforts of the Mercyhurst Quickstarter program, founded by social entrepreneur and Intelligence Studies Professor Kris Wheaton. The program prepares local, potential, and existing entrepreneurs to launch effective Kickstarter campaigns. Mercyhurst's Quickstarter is funded in part by a grant from the Erie County Gaming Revenue Authority's Ignite Erie Initiative

Mentor Capital Network: Opportunities for Social Entrepreneurs

Erie Entrepreneur and Cofounder of Radius CoWork, Sean Fedorko, has worked with the Mentor Capital Network. He has this to say: "I have worked with the MCN on four rounds of business plan evaluations and I have been continually impressed at the breadth of companies operating around the globe that have built profitable businesses by addressing social problems."

The Mentor Capital Network is holding its annual competition for social entrepreneurs. If you are launching or growing a for-profit company where your social, environmental, and/or cultural mission strengthens your financial margins, then consider applying to the William James Sustainable Business Plan Collaboration
