Kick off the holiday shopping season in a fun and elegant way at your local Selby at Snelling businesses on Thursday, November 10th from 6-9 pm. Participating businesses will have glowing luminaries and live music outside their storefronts, and inside the shops guests will find holiday treats, cheer, and exclusive specials and sales. Don't miss this fun neighborhood tradition!

As a small independent non-profit, we rely on your support to help us build a better community for all to live, work, and play.

Candidate Forums

Union Park is sponsoring a Minnesota House District 64A candidate forum featuring incumbent Rep. Erin Murphy and University of St. Thomas student Riley Horan on Thursday, October 27th at 6:30.

The 6:30 p.m. forum will be in Otto Hall at Episcopal Homes, 1860 University Ave. Eric Molho, an organizational consultant and district council volunteer, will moderate the forum, and audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions of the candidates. You are welcome to attend! Click here for more information on the race.

Also, the Highland Park Senior High School Parent Teacher Student Association is hosting a moderated forum for the candidates running in the special election for the open seat on the SPPS Board of Education on Tuesday November 1st from 7-8:30 pm in the Highland High auditorium. Candidates Jeannie Foster, Cindy Kerr, Eduardo Barrera, and Greg Copeland have confirmed attendance. Contact James Farnsworth at farns028@umn.edu with questions.

Halloween Bash

Come out to Merriam Park Recreation Center on Friday, October 28th from 6-8 pm. for the Halloween Bash! This free event will feature a jump castle, petting zoo, crafts, food, and even a haunted house!

St. Anthony Traffic Calming

The City of St. Paul is hosting a community meeting to present options for traffic calming on St. Anthony Avenue between Prior Avenue and Fry Street (just west of Snelling Avenue). Join us on Monday, November 28th from 7:00-8:30 pm at Episcopal Homes (1860 University Avenue) to review the alternatives, ask questions, and provide input.

This project was initiated by a group of residents to address concerns about vehicle speeds through the area. Because St. Anthony Avenue is part of the City's bike plan, and because St. Anthony can provide an important connection to the site of the future soccer stadium, bicycle facilities are being discussed as part of the solution. Removal of street parking between Dewey and Prior is included in some of the options being considered.

Nominate a Neighbor

Every year, we recognize three outstanding community members or groups from the Union Park community as part of the citywide Neighborhood Honor Roll Celebration. Would you like to nominate a neighbor whose volunteer contributions have made significant and lasting impacts in the community? Please email julie@unionparkdc.org by November 25 with your suggestions for this year's honorees.

Join our Land Use Committee

Would you like to learn more about development projects going on in our community, and have a chance to influence them? From liquor licenses to affordable housing projects, our Committee on Land Use and Economic Development addresses what's happening in Union Park. We usually meet on the third Monday of the month from 6:30-8:30 pm, and you're welcome to join us!  Please contact julie@unionparkdc.org for more information.

Vote on November 8th

Find your polling place and learn about the ballot this year. If you have not yet registered, you may do so at your polling place on Election Day. Learn more about Election Day registration. Have a question? Call 1-877-600-VOTE (8683) or check out Ramsey County's election website.

Recycling Upgrades

The City of Saint Paul is upgrading its recycling program! There is no need to sign up for these changes:

  • Wheeled Carts will be delivered to your home sometime between late November and early January.  They are bigger, and have wheels and a lid.
  • Alley Collection: Recycling will be collected weekly where trash is collected. For most residents, this will mean a switch to the alley.
  • Collection day change: Final routes have not yet been determined, but up to 60% of residents may experience a collection day change.
  • More items to recycle: The single sort recycling program will now include paper towel and toilet paper rolls, cardboard food containers, and refrigerated food boxes.

Details are coming soon in the mail and delivered with your cart. Visit stpaul.gov/recycle for more information.

Food Drive for Hallie Q. Brown

The Western District Police Department is hosting a fall food drive. Drop off canned food items at 389 Hamline Ave. N. from now until November 18th.  All collections will be donated to the Hallie Q. Brown Food Shelf. Last year, over 300,000 pounds of food was distributed to residents! Please consider making a financial donation to Hallie Q. Brown as well.

Dispose of Yard Waste

Do you know how to properly dispose of leaves, grass, and tree branches? Ramsey County residents have three options for disposing of yard waste:

  1. Put in a backyard compost bin,
  2. Bring to a Ramsey County yard waste site for free, or
  3. Contact your trash hauler for pick-up (fee charged).

For locations, hours and materials accepted at Ramsey County yard waste sites, visit RamseyRecycles.com or call 651-633-EASY (3279), answered 24/7.
