It's our eighth year of Shop by Candlelight and it's always a big hit with all sorts of shoppers and restaurant-goers and their friends and families. As before, we will have luminaries line the sidewalks, parking free throughout the neighborhood, AND food and beverage refreshments at our shops. There'll be great deals in the participating fashion and vintage boutiques, consignment stores, restaurants, gift shops, florists, and health/fitness/sports stores along both avenues. In addition, our partners at The Excelsior Group LLC have arranged for shoppers and strollers to have a unique early tour of a model apartment at the Harper from 5:30 to 7 pm (150 Snelling Ave North, enter on Hague Ave), which will begin renting for 2020 occupancy. Skyline Sewing Club is Alive and Running!

Greetings Community Members,

UPDC and Skyline Community would like to thank you for donating items to the Skyline Sewing Club. The first day of the Club received overwhelming presence from Skyline residents.

There were 27 residents who were strongly interested in learning how to sew or going back to sewing as a favorite artistic Hobby. Because of this high demand, the club has been divided into two separate sessions to accommodate the large group.

Currently, the Sewing Club is in need of volunteer fellow sewing enthusiasts to help guide this lovely bunch to creating some magnificently sewn fabric articles.

If you would like to meet some of your neighbors and you love sewing, stop by Skyline Sewing Club on Tuesday from 2:30 pm-4:30 pm

Once again, Thank you for supporting the Union Park Community with your generosity and compassion.

“The climate crisis is the defining issue of our time. Fighting for climate justice is about much more than protecting the environment, or moving away from fossil fuels. The moment humanity faces is an opportunity for re-imagination of how our world can function with justice, equality, and a regenerative relationship with the earth at the forefront.”

If this resonates with you, don't miss the chance to check out XIUHTEZCATL perform at this benefit concert for a more Sustainable Earth!

This year, the Saint Paul Federation of Educators and its members have once again put forward a slate of contract proposals that are focused on giving Saint Paul students the schools they deserve. With a focus on bargaining for the common good, SPFE is fighting to improve student access to mental health supports, increase the number of multilingual staff in the district, and ensure that educator caseloads are reasonable and appropriate to meet each student’s individual needs. And how has the district responded to these proposals? Largely with silence.

Rather than engaging educators in meaningful dialogue and respecting the voices of professionals who work every day with the students of SPPS, the district has instead pushed to delay our proposals through the creation of committees – or has ignored us entirely. Our members have worked in, and lived in, our district longer than most of the administrators sitting on the other side of the bargaining table. We have seen the impact of committees of and delayed implementation of proposals in the past – and those results are unacceptable.

As we head towards the end of 2019 it is more important than ever that we show the district that this year we will not allow our voices to be silenced. Instead, we will continue to insist that the district work with us to build the SPPS that Saint Paul students deserve.
