On Friday, March 27, faculty from the H-E-B School of Business & Administration (HEBSBA) visited St. PJ’s Children’s Home to continue the University of the Incarnate Word’s (UIW) Mission of service to the community. Faculty dug deep and reached high as they participated in a beatification project.

Capstone Students Help Raise $4.3 Million for San Antonio Nonprofits

Through the spirit and generosity of Central and South Texas communities, The Big Give San Antonio raised $4.3 million for local nonprofits. In partnership with the San Antonio Nonprofit Council, the HEBSBA’s pioneering capstone course took the responsibility of The Big Give’s social media presence. Tweets, shares and posts, students took to the social grid for the second consecutive year.

#SociallyCertified: New Certification Program Graduates First Cohort 

Social Media Communications Certification Program
The first cohort of the Social Media Communications Certification Program received their credentials in a ceremony held at the San Antonio Area Foundation on April 12. The program attracted 36 representatives from various San Antonio organizations including Eva’s Heroes, United Way, The Valor Club, Texas A&M – San Antonio, UTSA, and Habitat for Humanity. The sessions offer a unique environment where representatives across the organizational spectrum from presidents to interns collaborate and learn.

Certified Financial Planner Program
As masses of Baby Boomers close in on retirement, financial advisors are in high-demand. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects the occupational growth rate for financial advisors to climb 27% over the next decade, well above the average growth rate of 11% for all occupations. The HEBSBA understands this need and is now adding a piece to assist in solving the financial puzzle. - Find out more about the HEBSBA's new CFP certification. 
Professional Golf Management Program Featured in Golf Insider Magazine
Learn more about the new PGM Program
The H-E-B School of Business & Administration's Professional Golf Management Program is currently featured in the Spring 2015 edition of Golf Insider Magazine. UIW is finishing construction of the new PGM facility located at the Republic Golf Course in Southeast San Antonio; course will begin this Fall 2015 semester.

UIW's Volunteer Tax Assistance Program Hits $400,000 in Returns

This year, 42 accounting students volunteered in processing 306 tax returns logging over 2,000 student volunteer hours. The IRS reported no rejections for UIW from e-filing this tax season. The total refund amount for the clients was $412,630 with an average client income of $21,000.

The Business Plan Competition began early in the Fall 2014 semester with the students attending workshops on business planning and financials. They formulated relevant strategies, refined their ideas and provided their own market research.
