Congratulations, Graduates!
Congratulations to all 2014 graduates of the H-E-B School of Business & Administration! We wish you tremendous success in your future endeavors.
Welcome from the Dean - Dr. Forrest Aven

I would first like to wish everyone happy holidays and welcome to the 2014 newsletter: A Year in Review. It has been a year of milestones for the H-E-B School of Business & Administration (HEBSBA): we have added new facilities, developed new pioneering programs, continued our outreach into the community, and sustained growth in our student body.

In August, the HEBSBA proudly opened the doors to the new state-of-the-art Financial Resource Center (FRC). The FRC serves as another quality tool to prepare our students for the competitive business market. The center is equipped with a high-tech infrastructure, industry-standard software, and a student-managed portfolio. With the addition of the FRC, graduates seeking employment in the financial sector will be able to Dr. Forrest Avenseamlessly transition into the workforce. The FRC also assists the HEBSBA in building a clear visual identity. There are over 1700 business schools in North America, of which only 16 percent have a finance center; this gives us a unique advantage in recruiting top students for our business programs.

Remaining responsive to market forces, we have added two certifications to our continuing education program and a new concentration to our Bachelor of Business Administration degree. The HEBSBA now offers certifications in Social Media Communications for Nonprofits and Financial Planning. Through our partnership with the San Antonio Area Foundation, the Social Media Communications certification gives nonprofits a learning resource concentrated on stakeholder engagement and outreach. The Certified Financial Planner (CFP) certification has been adopted to satisfy a need for the next generation of qualified financial advisors. Finally, the HEBSBA is now home to the Professional Golf Management (PGM) Program. The PGM Program is dedicated to producing business minded professionals ready for a career in the global golf industry.

We have also seen old initiatives revitalized. It has been a great pleasure to witness the reestablishment of the HEBSBA Advisory Board. Constituted of community business leaders, the board serves to advise and support the school in achieving its mission and strategic vision. We want our students to have the most contemporary insights into the business world and the advisory board assists us in permeating that practical knowledge into the classroom. This information transfer is incredibly important as the HEBSBA now serves over 1,000 undergraduate and graduate students many of whom will remain in San Antonio and South Texas.

We will continue to explore and develop new initiatives that improve the quality and increase the value of our business degrees. The above accomplishments resulted from the long hours and dedication of our faculty and staff, who maintain an overwhelming passion for service to their students, school and university. As we look forward to 2015, investment in our students will remain our top priority. I am certain the new year will bring great challenges and even greater achievements.
