CanSPEP President’s Message - February 2016

Bettyanne Sherrer CMP, CMM, ProPlan Conferences & Events

CanSPEP has just begun celebrating our 20th Anniversary year.  Yes, it’s been 20 years since a handful of progressive, foresighted, and dedicated entrepreneurial event planners met at our founder, Joy Fox’s home, to establish an organization that defined the word “coopetition”.  The roots of this organization were planted, then fed and nurtured to grow into the strong, vibrant, well-respected culture of collaboration, professionalism and respect that it is today.

During the 2016 CanSPEP Conference, March 3 – 5 in Windsor, we will be recognizing the establishment of the association and those who contributed to it.  The conference theme of “20/20: Remembering the Past, Envisioning the Future” acknowledges the fortitude and work of our founders and those contributing to our future.

Business events, from huge conventions and trade shows to smaller conferences and seminars, have become big business in Canada. It’s the business of getting people together to share ideas, make connections and do business. The Canadian Economic Impact Study (3.0) that was released in March 2014 indicated that the Business Events industry is a powerful driver of economic growth. BEICC became the custodian of the study in 2014 with the strategic plan to update this data more frequently and to embrace Canada's regional diversity and complexity into the mix. This updated data will add relevancy to our work in the industry as planners, suppliers and partners.

Therefore, it is time to refresh the figures and to that end, we need your help. Our plan is to launch the survey in the coming weeks and run for approximately three weeks.  That means we will have a short window to collect much data. Your contribution is appreciated.

Please click the link below to go to the BEICC site to sign up to complete the Survey for CEIS 4.0.  The new survey will follow the same protocols as 3.0 so we will be able to provide trend analysis along with regional and national data.  This survey is vital for the industry so we hope everyone will get on board to participate.

Thank you for your involvement in this vital industry activity.

Sincerely,

BEICC Board
