"Listening Tour" held at CAHS
Executive Director Jan Laughinghouse, PhD, LCSW-BACS, LAC, and Deputy Director Shaketha Carter hosted a "listening tour" in April, meeting together with CAHS employees and leaders to identify opportunities for improvement and innovation. "Our vision is to excel at making lives better, and our mission is to deliver caring and responsive services that lead to a better tomorrow," said Dr. Laughinghouse.  "We are committed to delivering on those promises for everyone we serve."

CAHS experts appear on TV special
Executive Director Jan Laughinghouse, PhD, LCSW-BACS, LAC, and Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychologist Bryan Gros, PhD, represented CAHS in a WVLA-TV, Channel 33, special that aired April 22 about the opioid epidemic. In case you missed the program, click on the button to watch now.
Here's how: Pain relief without opioids
Can acute and chronic pain be relieved without opioids? CAHS' Prevention Division answers those questions (and more) in a new campaign that will run through June on television, radio, and social media. The campaign includes videos of experts, like Franciscan University Adjunct Instructor Claire Kantrow, PT, DPT, talking about relieving pain without addictive opioids. Watch Dr. Kantrow's informative video now.
Medication safety for seniors
CAHS is partnering with the East Baton Rouge Council on Aging and the Louisiana Department of Health - Office of Public Health to distribute medication safety materials to seniors. Resource packets that include medication-safety brochures, medication disposal pouches, and refrigerator magnets with contact information for CAHS and other agencies will be distributed throughout the area.
"The Area" Discusses Sexual Health
Does sexual health affect mental health? Watch to learn as CAHS Social Media Director Samia Taylor talks with Sashika Baunchand, CEO and founder of Outstanding Mature Girls Org. Samia and Sashika discuss how HIV, AIDS, and other sexually transmitted diseases can cause feelings of isolation, sadness, depression, and even thoughts of suicide.
Vivian Gettys Retires from CAHS
We extend our best wishes to Prevention Division Director Vivian Gettys, RN, MPH, who retired in April after 16+ years of service at CAHS. Her leadership in substance use and misuse prevention included developing public awareness campaigns about the dangers of opioids, vaping, tobacco, and alcohol. Vivian's dedication helped so many people, and her tireless work was recognized in an official statement by Governor John Bel Edwards.
In case you missed it ... "Let's Talk"
In April, CAHS partnered with the Louisiana Department of Health - Office of Public Health and the East Baton Rouge Parish Library to host the "Let's Talk" series about the impacts of the opioid epidemic. If you missed it, you can watch now. The topics were 1) Recovery and Family Support, 2) How to Protect Your Loved Ones, 3) The Truth About Opioids (for teens), and 4) Mind and Body Wellness to Prevent Misuse.
