Shelter in the Storm
ONE-DAY WOMEN'S RETREAT
It seemed like an ordinary Thursday, a mid-July Atlanta summer. Yet, what transpired within the walls of Apostles on July 18, 2019, was anything but ordinary. For when Christ through the Holy Spirit, welcomed through the prayers of His women at Apostles, shows up, the extraordinary occurs … and we were witnesses to it!
We had the honor of hosting approximately 120 women for a one-day retreat, “Shelter in the Storm,” as the conclusion to our summer Kingdom Builders series. The participants included both Apostles women and guests from local women’s Christ-centered recovery centers, namely Grateful Hearts, Gilgal, and Kidz2Leaders. This body of sisters in Christ enjoyed a full day of worship and prayer, teaching and testimony, moments alone “retreating” with Christ and His Word, and coming back together for rich table discussion and fellowship. Though we were in the city, it was truly a “mountaintop” experience as the love and peace of Christ reigned throughout the day. We look forward to the hope of seeing continual fruit-bearing in the lives of women who were there.
I have to say what a WONDERFUL retreat the women’s ministry put on last week. I was teary on and off throughout the day as I looked around. It was beautiful in every single way. I came home and told my husband it was one of the best things the women’s ministry has ever done. And I have been around the church for over 20 years. The body of Christ at its finest, for sure.
I’m sure you heard so much testimony, but Gilgal had a new woman attending. She’d just arrived about two days earlier. She sat next to me and, at one moment, I noticed a group of non-Gilgal residents surrounding her and praying for her. Many of the women knew each other from other programs. I was blown away by this and how they were lifting Jenna up collectively at this time--they were there for her. There was power in Him that day. Always is at COTA, but I know the Gilgal women were so stirred.
