Freedom of Information is under threat. Here’s what to do
Proposed changes could make it much harder for you to access information.
A cross-party government commission is currently examining changes which would affect your Right to Information.
When similar changes were introduced in Ireland, use of the FOI Act fell by over 50%, and media requests by over 83%.
We can't let the same thing happen in the UK.
You have until
20 November
if you’d like to voice your opposition to these restraints.
Likely recommendations include:
A
charge
for making Freedom of Information requests
A
block
on information about internal discussions in public authorities
A
veto
for minsters when responding to requests for government information
A
lower threshold
on requests turned down for reasons of cost
Ready to act?
Just 60 seconds of your time could help avert these changes. We've outlined four easy actions in our blog post.
