2017 World Archery Youth Championships

Team Manitoba Archers Austin Taylor, Brady Klassen, Bryanne Lameg, & Robbie Comberbach proudly represented Manitoba and Canada at the recent 2017 World Archery Youth Championship in Rosario, Argentina.This was the first time at a world championships for all four Manitoba archers as they competed in individual and team events. 

Compound Junior Female Archer Bryanne Lameg placed 35th in the qualification round and finished the tournament 33rd ranked following individual match play. Following individual matches, Bryanne competed with fellow Canadian archers Kaitlyn Horlock and Finoa Maude in the Compound Junior Women Team Quarterfinal. The 7th ranked Canadian Womens team shot very well, but fell short by 3 points losing to the 2nd ranked Italian Team 205 - 208. 

As for our Compound Cadet Men archers, all placed in the top 25. Austin Taylor placed 20th with a score of 681. Brady Klassen placed 25th with a score of 676 and Robbie Comberbach was initially tied at 8th with a score 688 before a four way shoot off placed him 11th to finish the day.   

In the individual match play rounds, Brady and Austin won their initial matches in the round of 1/24, while Robbie had a bye. moving into the round of 1/16, Brady fell short of his 8th ranked opponent and was eliminated. Robbie knocked off his first head to head opponent with a three point lead of 136 to 133, while Austin faced off against the 13th ranked archer from Mexico and took a tight win with a tie off 139 - 139 before a measured shoot off of 9 - 9. In the round of 1/8 Austin faced the 4th ranked archer from Mexico and was defeated with a score a 135 - 142, while Robbie faced off against another Mexican archer ranked 6th overall and won with a strong score of 140 to 135. Robbie was the lone Canadian Compound Cadet Male to move onto the quarterfinal, where he met the 3rd placed archer from the USA and lost in a very close match 140 - 142. Following the completion of the individual match play, Brady's final ranking was 17th, Austin 9th and Robbie 6th.

In Team Rounds, Robbie competed with Canadian Compound Cadet Archer Alexandra Paquette in the Cadet Compound Mixed Team Event. The 6th ranked Canadian Team went up against the 11th placed Turkey in the round of 1/8 and lost with a score of 129-143. In the Compound Cadet Mens Team Round all three Manitoba archers competed together.  The Canadian Team was ranked 5th going into the round of 1/8 with a match against 12th ranked Namibia. The Canadians took the very close match 211 - 211 with a shoot off score of 29 - 25. Following the tight match against Namibia, the Canadians met the 4th ranked Russian Federation in the quarterfinals and defeated them with a convincing score of 209 - 201. In the semifinal, the Canadian Men went up against the top ranked USA Team and lost after a tough battle with a score of 220 - 231, which resulted in a final rank of 4th overall. 

Other notable results from Team Canada archers was a 2nd place finish for the Compound Junior Mens Team following a loss in the final against team Mexico and a 2nd place finish for Compound Cadet Archer Alexandra Paquette in a close gold medal final against the U.K with a score of 138 - 142. 

The ABAM is very proud of all four archers that represented the country, our province and our organization with strong performances and great sportsmanship. Their hard work and dedication to training has led to the experience of competing at the pinnacle event of their age and discipline. We thank the parents, the coaches, the clubs and fellow members that contributed to this goal being realized!

2018 Manitoba Winter Games Archery

 

 

The Manitoba Winter Games Archery Event is seeking female and male archers aged 16 & Under with intermediate to advance skills in recurve or compound archery. The Manitoba Winter Games is a fantastic athletic and character building experience for youth, as they will practice, travel and compete with their fellow team members to represent their home region in Manitoba. This exciting developmental event will take place in Thompson, MB and will include a 3 three day archery tournament starting March 4, 2018. Whether you are a bowhunter or  recreational archer with limited competition experience, we encourage you to participate in your regional preparation camps!

The preparation camps (“Prep Camps”) are hosted by regional coaches and managers with National Coach Certification Program (NCCP) training and is geared toward development of archery skills and introduction to competition. The Prep Camps will prepare archers for the regional qualifier hosted in December 2017.

One of best parts about the Manitoba Winter Games Archery Event is the low cost for the opportunity to participate! There is no cost associated to the participation in the Regional Prep Camps & Qualifier.

 

Please note, it is not mandatory to attend both Prep Camps, but it is recommended.

2017 ABAM Awards Lunch


 

The ABAM 2017 Annual Awards Lunch & Annual General Meeting will be held on Sunday November 26, 2017 at the Manitoba Sport Hall of Fame at the Sport for Life Center, located at 145 Pacific Avenue, Winnipeg, MB.

The Awards Ceremonies will begin at 11:00 AM, followed by lunch at 12:00. The Annual General Meeting will take place following lunch at approximately 1:00 PM.

Nominate a deserving coach, athlete or volunteer! 

The following awards are currently open for nomination:

Target Archer of the Year: In recognition of the Manitoba Archer with the most outstanding achievement(s) in provincial, national or international Target Archery in the past year.

3D Archer of the Year: In recognition of the Manitoba Archer with the most outstanding achievement(s) in provincial, national or international 3D Archery in the past year.

Rising Star Award: In recognition of the Manitoba Youth Archer (Cadet & under) with the most outstanding achievement(s) in provincial, national or international archery in the past year.

Coach of the Year Award: Awarded to the Coach who has contributed the most to developing archery in the province of Manitoba during the previous year.

Volunteer of the Year: Awarded to the volunteer who has contributed the most to developing archery with in the province of Manitoba during the previous year.

2017 ABAM Annual General Meeting

 
 

The ABAM 2017 Annual General Meeting will be held on Sunday November 26, 2017 at the Manitoba Sport Hall of Fame at the Sport for Life Center, located at 145 Pacific Avenue, Winnipeg, MB.

The Annual General Meeting will take place following the 2017 Awards Lunch at approximately 1:00 PM.

Please note, that the 2017 Individual and Club Membership privileges will expire on December 31, 2017.  As the ABAM membership and club affiliation acts as liability coverage for shooters, clubs and event hosts, we stress the importance of members to renew before the end of December.

The ABAM member cards will be printed and distributed in batches at the end of every month. If you have registered for 2017 Membership and have not yet received a card when attending an event, please note the event organizers will have a list of current members for proof of membership. 
 
The membership form and online payment and registration option can be accessed at the membership page of the ABAM Website located at 
http://abam.ca/about/membership/. Payment options include online payment and registration through a new online member form that will follow the Pay Pal Transaction. As always, we will accept member forms along with cash or cheque by mail. 

We encourage new and existing members to pay and sign up for their membership online as this saves on administrative time and paper. If you would like to pay/renew online, please select a membership option below and click “Buy Now”
