Team Manitoba at 2017 Canadian
Archery Championships 

Congratulations to Team Manitoba Target Archery on a strong performance this past week at the 2017 Canadian Field & Target Archery Championships in Brossard, QC! The team started the week off with several archers making the podium at the Canadian Field Championships. Ryan Cherniak took first place in the Cub Male Compound Division, followed by Manitoba taking the top four spots in the Cadet Male Compound Division with Austin Taylor in 1st, Robbie Comberbach in 2nd, Brady Klassen in 3rd and Kyle Cherniak in 4th. In addition to the great placements, Austin Taylor tied a Canadian Championship Record with his score of 405. For full results listing of the field event, please visit:

Following the Field Archery Championships and prior to the Canadian Target Championships, Team members Austin Taylor, Brady Klassen & Bryanne Lameg represented Manitoba in the Fred Usher Cup. Team Manitoba eliminated New Brunswick, Ontario, and Saskatchewan to take first place. This is the third year in a row Team Manitoba has made the Finals and our second Fred Usher Cup win in that time.

The Target Championships consisted of two 720 rounds spanning August 11 & 12. The two days of competition saw recurve and compound archers alternate shooting times each day and a range of weather conditions that included high heat, humidity, and variable winds. Despite the range of weather, Team Manitoba Archers hard work and preparation shone through as several athletes hit the podium and set new Canadian Championship Records. Placing in the top three of their respective divisions were:

Cub Compound Male
Ryan Cherniak - 1st Place

Cadet Compound Male
Austin Taylor - 1st Place
Brady Klassen - 2nd Place
Robbie Comberbach - 3rd Place

In addition to the podium placements listed above, Junior Female Compound Team Archer Bryanne Lameg set a new Canadian Championship record with a score of 672. Austin Taylor also set a new Canadian Championship Record in the Cadet Male Compound Division with his score of 691.

The final event of the weekend is the annual Canadian Open. The open is an elimination match play event based off the ranking from the Canadian Championships. Junior Compound Male, Simon Potrebka shot well in the open. Simon made it to the 1/4 finals before falling to his opponent in a shoot off. Cadet Compound Male Team Members Austin Taylor, Brady Klassen and Robbie Comberbach had an impressive performance, taking three of the top 4 spots. Austin second place after a close loss to the his competitor. Robbie Comberbach took 3rd place in a shoot off win as him and Brady Klassen tied at 140 points.

The ABAM would like to thank the Provincial Team Leadership, Head Coach Nigel Jaikaran and Team Manager Vickie Oneschuk. Their hard work and dedication to the team played an important role in our athletes success.


2017 Canadian Outdoor 3D Championships

Congratulations to Provincial Team Member Cornelia Squirra and her family on medalling at the 2017 Outdoor 3D National Championships in Amos, QC. Cornelia placed 3rd in the Longbow Female Division, while Daughters Petra and Robin took 1st in the Junior Traditional Female and Pre Cub Traditional Female Divisions respectively. The Squirra's said, that despite the rainy weather, they had a great experience competing out of Province at the event.

Outdoor Advanced Development Clinics


Introduction to performance archery & competition

The Archers & Bowhunters Association of Manitoba will be hosting four Advance Development Clinics with a focus on introduction to performance archery & competition format. The clinics are looking to attract archers that have taken lessons and are eager to take the next step toward more frequent practice and competition. Some of the clinic content will include competition format & ethics, advanced equipment knowledge and mock tournament play. The course will be coached by Provincial Team Head coach Nigel Jaikaran and other advanced instructors with knowledge and background in both Compound & Recurve Archery.

The Lameg Family will be hosting an Axe Throwing fundraiser Saturday August 19 at 4:00 PM at Lumberjax.
