Recent workshops in Mississippi!
Because of several previous DTI conferences in the area, Frank and Jeannette Meitz were invited to two additional churches -- that were already convinced that implementing DTI is what they want to do to stimulate spiritual growth.
We left a comprehensive Implementation Guide to assist their efforts. (click HERE to view the guide) Watch for God to continue to work at both of these churches as they implement personal discipleship into their church life.
Hickory Ridge Baptist Church - Florence
Ron Bullock has been promoting DTI after being trained and personally discipling several men over the last several years. He and his wife Marilyn often host us, and had suggested to the leadership at Hickory Ridge that this is a missing component to add to accelerate the growth of those making salvation decisions weekly at this vibrant church.
Senior Pastor Terry Fant personally invited 30 faithful men and women who already have a propensity to invest in the lives of other believers to participate in the weekend conference.
On Friday night, Frank and Jeannette presented the reasons for adding the one-on-one model and then on Saturday they both led individual small group breakouts digging deeper into the Phase 1 lessons with the purpose of having the mentors feel that they were equipped and ready to start discipling.
Harmony Baptist Church - Crystal Springs
The following weekend Frank and Jeannette repeated the conference at Harmony Baptist Church. Fred Hutto, who originally invited DTI to Mississippi four years ago, is on staff under Senior Pastor John Gordon, and is a very strong supporter of DTI. He has enlisted two faithful men, Malcolm Taylor and David Young, who are leading training sessions, as per the Implementation Guide, continuing the equipping process.
One day after the mini conference concluded, Fred reported that three mentors have already begun one-on-one discipling sessions with new believers!
This amazing saga of a DTI translation and website in Afrikannas began with this email from Hennie Steyl in Nambia: We would like to translate your manual into Afrikaans. We are from South Africa where our calling is to reach the Afrikaner nation and make disciples and disciplers of them. Our aim is to give a complete tool to assist disciple makers in making disciples.
We will translate the manual as it is. Furthermore, we want to set up our website as yours and also make our own training videos in Afrikaans.
Your manual and website really fits ours like a glove. We believe the Spirit led us to this after many prayers.
We are populating the website as we finish the lessons in the manual. We are planning our first seminar in March 2017. We have also managed to set up social media accounts with the plan to drive all our activities through social media.
LATE BREAKING NEWS FROM CUBA!
Our Hermonos en Cristo host and organizer, Luis Hernandez Bermudez, has asked DTI to return for the next conference in November of 2017! We plan to go to the province of Sancti Spirtus.
Please pray as we seek the Lord's guidance-- as it also involves raising about $10,000 in 8 months!
Vangi (from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) found the DTI website and has introduced the materials to the Calvary Church Disciple-making Team and an Adult Sunday School class, personally sharing her own experience and showing two DTI Leader Training videos. The response has been amazing! Folks have signed up for Phase 2 Discipler training, while others are interested in being mentored one-on-one. Many are eager to get started and are thinking of loved ones and friends who desperately need to be discipled!
She wrote: I can sense that God has been at work in the lives of our mature believers, giving them a desire to disciple new and younger believers, but they were having difficulty finding an effective tool that focuses on the spiritual transformation of believers and not just on conforming to acceptable standards of Christian behavior. Now, thanks to DTI, they have received an effective tool. Thank you so much for making the DTI discipleship manual available for us to use in our church ministries.
DTI IS ACTIVE IN SEVERAL PRISONS and churches are needed for inmates to connect with when they are released.
DTI has a small team who responds to correspondence and requests for materials from inmates. We ask for a testimony of faith in Christ. The volunteer then sends a5 Concepts tractin order to probe a little and get the inmate to open up. This process usually weeds out those who are not serious. We then send one section or an entire manual when we receive a second request with their testimony.
We recently received a request from an inmate who used DTI in prison asking for assistance to find a home church as he is soon to be released.
Pray for this very important ministry as those who are incarcerated find the Lord and grow in their walk.
Pray for a discipleship group outside for inmates in Nevada who are being released.
Pray for any other ideas for follow up on the outside for released inmates.
DTI AT ETERNITY CHRISTIAN CENTER IN RENO
For the past two years Art and Toni Barkley have been training 4-5 discipleship leadership couples in Spanish at ECC. Several of these couples have been overseeing discipleship groups, and some have been involved in discipling individuals one-on-one. Those who have attended testify as to how their lives have been changed.
They are key leaders in the discipleship ministry at Eternity Christian Center, which will be even more critical now that the church is drawing many new people since it is meeting in a new location.
Senior Pastor Leo Castor has a long relationship with implementing DTI, as well as traveling to Cuba, Chile and Mexico for conferences.
