Can we hear the stories!

"C-Life has indeed brought me life. Am so blessed to serve and lead.-(Olivia Foncham, C-Life Alumni, Cohort 6)
C-Life Current Young Leader Fellows (Cohort 6)-L-R Mani Olivia, Ngong George, Suika Violet
"And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson and Jephthah, about David and Samuel and the prophets, who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice...” (Heb 11:32-33)

I met up with an old friend who had accompanied me to Cameroon to begin the ground-work for C-Life. We sat under the Texas heat, reminded of our time in Cameroon. She asked me with a smile of deep anticipation, "Tell me the stories!, tell me the stories of what is happening in Cameroon with C-Life".

I smiled back, matching her excitement, and at that moment I felt like I could relate with the many stories which the writer of Hebrews shared in that famous eleventh chapter.

Our vision at C-Life is to see African servant leaders, transforming their own communities for God's glory. The C-Life stories range from our trained young leaders cleaning dirty market-squares at 6am as a way to serve their community, they clean hospitals and wow their staff until we get letters of appreciation.

Our young leaders fill potholes on busy streets while onlookers are perplexed about their motivation. Others partner with local officials to serve during rush-hour as traffic controllers in an overly congested metropolitan city.

They orient school kids about to start school on values and habits that support excellence. They fast and pray for peace in the currently war-affected country of Cameroon. They care for the elderly by visiting them and cleaning their living spaces. They do not forget the orphans, as they visit them and do their laundry.

Everywhere our leaders find themselves we hear stories of community transformation, stories of service and stories of life. Time does not permit me to tell you all the stories, but maybe you can sink your heart into this one story.

The story of C-Life Alumni Durance, a young nurse practitioner and co-owner of a local clinic. Her journey led to her face featuring on the page of one of the most famous men in the world.
The Durance story
C-Life Alumni DiranceTanekeu-Co-Owner of Quality Healthcare Clinic, Yaounde-Cameroon
Durance grew up in the Eglish part of Cameroon-Africa, where she was grieved by the poor services hospitals offered patients especially those who were uneducated. Many years later she decided to  open her own Clinic with a friend. The clinic is called Quality Healthcare Clinic.

Durance bumped into C-Life on Facebook and decided to attend our 3 month Leadership Training. "when I came to C-Life I was lost and scared. I had opened this business and had no idea what I was doing. I felt it was a crazy idea", she told us one day. After going through the class, "the art of self leadership", Durance started to find courage and a renewed sense of her God-given calling.

Before C-Life their clinic used to serve on average 20 patients a week, but after Durance and her Co-owner went through the C-Life program, with a business plan in hand, they started serving on average 60 patients a week and offering some free community screenings where they reached at least 100 people in those events. Her dream of serving God through healthcare is indeed coming true.
Durance confessed that C-Life transformed her spiritually, personally and professionally especially the training module on Self Leadership. This self-transformation was crowned by Durance being selected for the Obama Foundation Young Leaders’ Program in South-Africa this year 2019.

Durance had never traveled out of the country before, but she said being in South Africa, it did not take her long to feel at home among over 45 other Young Leaders from around Africa. She said, "C-Life prepared me well".

Her drive for service with integrity, professionalism and Excellence, collided with the former US President Obama's heart for leadership through serving the community. The former US President-Barack Obama tweeted Durance's community service picture coupled with these words, "if you are going to change the world, start by serving your community". Words that Durance could relate to far too well.

Overnight it seemed Durance became a celebrity, however she says, her real celebrity status comes from serving those in her community.

We thank God for young leaders like Durance in our world, and we are humbled to be used of the Lord  to serve Durance in achieving her God-given purpose.
