GEELONG REGION CROSS COUNTRY

SEASON 2016
Round 7
Albert Park Road Race

On Sunday I was on the side lines supporting Team Geelong. While that's never an easy place to be, witnessing the strong performances of all that wore the singlet was exciting. I felt proud to be a part of the navy and white. From Juniors through to Masters, we are a strong group with some exceptional running talent. There are those that are prominent and podium familiar, and there are the quiet achievers who put their head down, dig in and get things down - ALL are important team members. The support we show each other on course and from the side lines is envied by other teams - and it should be.

I can't recall a more impressive set of results than what we achieved on Sunday. Both men and women performed very well. And a bonus was seeing runners achieve PBs in conditions that weren't that conducive to fast running.

A couple of performances really stood out for me on Sunday...
  • Harry Smithers - a high-achieving-quiet achiever. He came home in 8th place - great to see what is a well deserved top ten finish. Harry's face is an open book when he runs, and there is no doubting what he puts into the race. Love watching him put it on the line.
  • Michelle Martin - consistently present and consistently performing. Michelle has gone from strength to strength in 2016. She ran a big PB on Sunday. Each and every round Michelle features with a smile - the enjoyment she gets from her running is so very evident.
  • Rochelle Brennan - new to the team in 2016 and what an awesome addition she is! A very valuable member of the Division 1 Women's line up, Rochelle seems to surprise herself - but not necessarily us - with excellent results at each run.
To the results...

Hard to believe we are at Round 8 already. Thanks to Brett Coleman's time and efforts in 2015, this is the round of the season and one we consider our own. Relay team places will be highly sought after so respond to this email with your availability ASAP so that we can enter a strong Team Geelong.

Racing commences at 12:30pm (Div 2 Men), with the final race starting at 1:30pm
