GEELONG REGION CROSS COUNTRY

SEASON 2016
Round 8
Anglesea Ekiden Relay

After a big build up it all came together for Team Geelong on what was a spectacular day on the surf coast yesterday.

An Ekiden Relay is a momentous event. Organising it is a logistical feat. Geelong, and in fact Athletics Victoria and every athlete that competed on Saturday, has Brett Coleman to thank for this spectacular course. The effort and energy behind the scenes is astounding and we are lucky to be the beneficiaries.

The volunteers that helped set up, time, direct and were just present to help where they could are due a massive thank you. It is a term that is thrown around a lot but the day would not be possible without the hours committed by them. Coordinated and directed by Brett, the 30 plus volunteers that turned out for Geelong were key to the success of the day.

Geelong entered nine teams for Anglesea and it was our junior and open women that really shone. We have considerable depth in the women's team and the second, first and first placings for Div 1, 4 and 5 respectively prove that. Similar results for the junior women suggest the future is bright.

To the men, particular thanks to the junior runners that stepped up to fill positions in the Premier and Division 2 teams. Your preparedness to help out regardless of team is appreciated and your performances highlighted your talent.

Results across all Geelong Teams:

MEN
Division 1 - Third
Division 2 - Sixth
U 16 - TBC

WOMEN
Division 1 - Second
Division 4 - First
Division 5 - First
U 14 - Third
U 18 - Third
U 20 - Second

And it's now time to turn our thinking to XCR Round 9. Sunday 4 September sees the series return to inner Melbourne with the Burnley Half Marathon and Juniors 6km Road Race. All races start at 8am (aside from the early starters - 7:30am). The course is fast and flat and loops around the scenic Yarra Boulevard. Geelong has an exceptional history of distance running so lets make sure we are well represented at this classic event.
