GEELONG REGION CROSS COUNTRY

SEASON 2015
ROUND 8 ANGLESEA EKIDEN RELAYS
Apologies for the delay in getting this wrap up email out, it's been a big few days for Geelong XC!

On Saturday Geelong hosted the inaugural Anglesea Ekiden Relays. This event was the baby of Brett Coleman and replaced the event that was the logistical challenge of the Coliban Relays of the past. Coordinating the safe passage of over 700 athletes over 6 different courses required the organisational skills of a genuine mastermind and Brett nailed it!
For all the stressful hours he spent marking the course, checking and double checking the markers, recruiting marshals, directing marshals, and troubleshooting on the day there were thousands of hours spent negotiating permits from all the relevant bodies. He even managed to fit in a handy green leg on the DIV 3 team!
We congratulate you Brett and thank you for making Geelong's home event one to remember.

Before I go on to mention how fast you all ran I need to make a few shout outs. A massive THANK YOU to the following parties:

- All the marshals that kindly volunteered their Saturday for the benefit of others. Everybody did an amazing job and the event couldn't have been staged without your help.

- All those who assisted with course marking and clean up.

- Justin Morris at Anglesea Caravan Park who very generously offered up a cabin for Geelong runners to relax and recuperate following the event.

- Steampocket catering for providing delicious pizza's post event at the cabin.

- All of those who helped with timing of the teams on the day.

- Geelong runners who guided and 'nursed' runners on the hilly Sunday long run.

- The Running Company Geelong for paying for entries for all Geelong athletes and teams.

We had some amazing results on Saturday. There's too many to isolate but I'll mention podium finishers -

FAREWELLS
Geelong Region Cross Country says farewell to several of our loyal team members this week.

Claudia Verstraten is off to pursue both her academic and running goals at University of Arkansas. Claud will head straight into another XC season but this time for the "Hogs"! It's been great watching Claud progress from a junior talent to a powerhouse in the 1500m. All the best!

Reilly Shaw is also off to the US and the Auburn Tigers. Reilly will build on his breakthrough 2014/15 track season and we look forward to watching his progress from afar. Go Reilly!

Cathryn Hoare has been a stalwart of the Geelong XC since forever! Whenever we've needed an extra runner, timer, marshal, tent (!) Cathryn has been the first to put her hand up. Cathryn is off to Beijing to watch the World Championships and then on to a new employment opportunity in Queensland. Thanks for your commitment over the years Cathryn!
