Training Pastors in Desaguadero, Peru

First we want to thank everyone who prayed for my (Trevor) recent trip to Desagaudero, Peru which lies on the border of Bolivia at 12,500 feet elevation just off Lake Titicaca. I was blessed to be part of a team which spent the week training about 35 Aymara (an indigenous people group) pastors and church leaders. We spent the week teaching on prayer, an overview of the New Testament and the character of a pastor. The men were very engaged and it was a blessing not only to teach them but to spend time at meals getting to know them better. The Lord really seemed to bless my ability to communicate in Spanish and I felt more comfortable teaching than I thought I was going to. Praise God for His hand of blessing on the week!

Betsy's Bed and Breakfast

Betsy has been working hard at home not only caring for our family and schooling the kids but in demonstrating hospitality as well. Upon returning from Desagaudero we were blessed to host Tony Steele, Reaching and Teaching's Facilitator of Training for Latin America, for four days. Moreover, during this time we hosted a dinner for our team (8 adults and 18 kids) to spend time with him. Tony was our third overnight guest in the two months that we have been in our house. We are firm believers that ministry happens in the context of relationships so we are thankful for opportunities to open our home.

Ministry on the Horizon

I am currently working with a national pastor here in Cusco, Jesus Presa, and another missionary here, Tim Killilay, to begin a pastoral training institute here in the city. It is still in its infant stages of development but it would be a three year training program focusing on developing the theological, spiritual formation and practical skills of a pastor. Our hope is not only to strengthen the churches here in Cusco but also to develop some of these men to do pastoral training in the surrounding indigenous communities and even to be sent out as missionaries around the world.

I will also be working alongside the pastors of the church we have been attending to help them further develop their doctrinal statement which needs to be reworked since they have recently come out of pentecostalism to a more biblical doctrine. I am thankful for this important opportunity.
  • Praise God for the privilege of training pastors and church leaders who otherwise do not have access to it here in Peru and that Betsy and the kids did well while I was gone.
  • We praise God for what He has provided toward our vehicle thus far. We hope to soon be at 100% of our need.
  • We are thankful to have found a language tutor who is great for our whole family so that we can all continue to move ahead in our language acquisition.
Prayer Requests
  • Continue to pray that our resident visa process would go well.
  • Pray that the Lord will continue to move the process forward in starting a pastoral training institute here in the city of Cusco.
  • That our hearts and minds would be focused on Christ and for the salvation of Titus, Nora and Ellie.
