1) SiX Kicks Off 2016 National Conference with New Legislator Bootcamp, Reception Honoring Progressive Women Leaders

SiX's 2016 National Legislator Conference, which brought together more than 400 state lawmakers from across the nation, kicked off with a day-long bootcamp for more than 60 newly elected legislators -- with a panel of veteran lawmakers sharing their advice with those in attendance. That evening, we hosted a reception honoring progressive women leaders like Minnesota State Rep.-elect Ilhan Omar and former Texas State Senator Wendy Davis, who reminded conference participants to "remember the hearts" of the constituents they represent.

2) In Opening Remarks of Conference, SiX Executive Director Nick Rathod Calls on Progressives to Rebuild at State and Local Level

In his opening remarks, SiX Executive Director Nick Rathod welcomed conference participants by reflecting on the 2016 election and emphasizing the need for progressives to rebuild power and invest in our political infrastructure at the state and local level. "We need to invest in young elected officials," said Rathod. "That's where it begins -- that's where it should start." Video of his remarks is available here.

3) All-Star Lineup of Keynote Speakers for Day #1 of Conference: House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Cory Booker, and Former Attorney General Eric Holder

U.S. House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, U.S. Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Cory Booker, and former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder addressed conference attendees during an action-packed first day. In their remarks, they called on lawmakers to take the fight to the states and to redouble their efforts to push back on the agenda of President-elect Trump and his conservative allies in Congress. In addition to the videos of each speaker, which are hyperlinked above, USA Today ran a great piece on Sen. Warren's remarks, the Huffington Post provided an overview of Holder's speech, and the Star-Ledger covered Sen. Booker's remarks.

4) In Powerful Day #2 Keynote Address, Rev. Barber Stresses Moral Imperative and Urgency of Progressives' Work in the States

Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II, who addressed conference attendees on the second day, spoke to the moral imperative of building an economy that responds to the needs of all Americans. "America is built from the bottom up -- when we change it at the state level, we change the nation," said Rev. Barber. "People cannot pursue happiness without being empowered economically. We will never give up, and we will always fight to take America to higher ground."

5) SiX Concludes Conference by Announcing Progressive Economic Blueprint Alongside Rev. Barber, Hundreds of Legislators, Other Leaders

In the final hours of the conference, SiX joined Rev. Barber, hundreds of state lawmakers, and other progressive community leaders in releasing the Progressive Economic Blueprint for the States -- a 100-day vision for state legislative action to spur economic growth and prosperity for middle- and working-class families. For more details on the blueprint and what it means for American workers and their families, check out our op-ed in The Hill this week from SiX Executive Director Nick Rathod.
