RxSafe Marin is a broad-based community coalition dedicated to reducing harm from prescription drug abuse and saving lives.
Treating Addiction in Primary Care in Marin

Opioid addiction is treatable. RxSafe Marin has a goal to increase the amount of buprenorphine, a medicine that treats opioid addiction, prescribed in Marin by at least ten percent in 2019.  Marin is home to a shining example of opioid addiction treatment in a primary care setting. The Marin City Health and Wellness Clinic was recently celebrated nationally in this video. 
Every Day is Take-Back Day!

In 2017, Marin residents safely disposed of over 7,000 pounds of unwanted medications in designated safe disposal locations. Our goal in 8,000 pounds in 2019. Thank you to our local law enforcement agencies and Marin residents for participating in the annual national Drug Take Back Day! Missed out? Don’t worry, you can bring your medications to one of these 25 conveniently located sites throughout Marin year round.
Overdose Reversal Agent More Available 

The California Department of Health Care Services has launched a new program to make naloxone, the medicine that can reverse an opioid overdose, free to local government for local distribution. Marin HHS and RxSafe Marin will be acquiring new supplies of naloxone to distribute to community partners in law enforcement, schools, libraries and other settings. Organizations interested in acquiring naloxone should contact to learn more.
RxSafe Marin Reaches 300+ Seniors at 2018 Marin Senior Fair

One quarter of opioid overdoses in Marin County are among seniors over age 65. RxSafe Marin reached out to hundreds of seniors to teach about safe opioid use and drug disposal,  gaining the 2nd place ribbon for Best Information Booth!  
Petaluma schools to launch opioid prevention program across classrooms

In 2019, RxSafe Marin will be working with schools to integrate opioid safety into the wellness curriculum. There’s a new model close by to consider. The Petaluma school district is the first in Northern California to roll out a DEA opioid prevention program, in response to rising concerns over the epidemic.  Read more.
