Meet Rehearsal Assistant, Cheryl Rothschild

Georgetown Ballet recently welcomed dancer and rehearsal assistant, Cheryl Rothschild, in the fall of 2017 for its annual Nutcracker rehearsals and performance at Southwestern University.

“I’m so excited to be teaching dance with Darcy, one of my best friends from high school!  I was sad we lost touch during college - but so excited to randomly run into each other at a dance teacher conference in Las Vegas. It seemed like it was just yesterday that we were two teenage ballerinas - the next thing you know we’re in the middle of 50 dance teachers "getting down” to ABBA’s "Dancing Queen," of course. It was a moment I will never forget!  I feel so lucky I have finally reconnected with my long lost friend!  We both studied at the same dance studio, Midland Festival Ballet, and were roommates at Ballet Austin’s summer intensive programs.  I am now happily involved as her rehearsal assistant at Georgetown Ballet. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to work and perform with her and the GB company! The last time I saw her we were just kids, ourselves, and now I’m so proud to see her inspiring a new generation of students.”

After high school, Cheryl graduated from Marymount Manhattan College with a BFA in Dance in 2003. In 2011 she received her Dance Teaching Certificate from Texas State University and soon became a dance teacher/substitute in AISD, where she currently works. She is now running all rehearsals for the company in preparation for its Poppy Festival performance this Sunday, April 29 at 12 pm.

In addition to her duties as an assistant to the director, Cheryl also appears in performances with the company. Recently, she danced the role of Arabian in GB's Act II of The Nutcracker. This Sunday she will dance the role of the Lilac Fairy--come see Cheryl and others dance this Sunday at the Celebrate Georgetown Stage, at the corner of 6th and Main.

Meet Our Newest Company Member, Alicia Vossler

Alicia Vossler grew up in Tianjin, China where she began her dance training at the age of four. The dance training she received from the Beijing Dance Academy, DanzCentre in Beijing, and the Beijing Modern Dance Company paved the way for her to explore dance, choreography, and performance opportunities in the United States. During Alicia’s time in the United States, she was given opportunities to dance under the direction of Mrs. Gina Anthony of Greater Dover Dance Academy (GDDA), Mrs. Elizabeth Dimmel of Dramatic Truth Ballet Theatre, Kathy Thibodeaux & Jiri Sebastian Voborsky of Ballet Magnificat, and now Mrs. Darcy Harrington of Georgetown Ballet. Notable GDDA ballets she has participated in have been Cinderella, The Nutcracker, The Sleeping Beauty, and Anastasia. Alicia’s dance training with DanzCentre in Beijing has enabled her to dance variations from Don Quixote, La Bayadère, and The Sound of Music. Aside from her ballet recital appearances, she has also had small dance roles in Beijing International Society’s Oliver!: The Musical (2007), Lancaster Bible College’s Fiddler on the Roof (2015), and Lake Travis Music Theatre’s Peter Pan: The Musical (2017). The extensive dance resume she has acquired has most recently given her the honor to be selected as a featured dance choreographer for Lake Travis Music Theatre’s Peter Pan: The Musical and upcoming Oklahoma!: The Musical (2018). Georgetown Ballet is the second company Alicia has been offered an apprenticeship position with; the first was Dramatic Truth Ballet Theatre.

We look forward to Alicia performing with Georgetown Ballet!
