St. Michael’s House St. Michael’s House Spring Ezine - February 2022 | Edition: 1/22 |
 |
|
| | St. Michael’s House welcomes the recent government announcement signalling the end of so many restrictions. After a challenging two years, an atmosphere of hope has emerged. Throughout the pandemic, St. Michael’s House has worked to ensure the best interest of our service users, families and staff. We have worked with the HSE to ensure booster vaccination of our service users and staff, and we will continue to be guided by the best public health advice as we move into the next phase of the pandemic. While many restrictions are ending, it is important to acknowledge that Covid19 is still in the community and may continue to impact our resources and delivery of service. As we adapt to a new reality our day services continue to reopen. We do have a number of challenges with transportation and we are working closely with the relevant companies in order to support families. We have completed a significant review of our transport routes to maximise efficiency and reduce journey times for service users. We aim to have a full return to services as soon as possible. I am very proud of the innovation, flexibility and best practice that we have experienced over the past two years. I want to reiterate the gratitude we all feel for the dedication and extraordinary work that continues to be contributed by our staff teams during this time. Our planning and new Strategic Plan Development is reflective of our intention to retain these approaches. Finally, I would like to thank our service users for their continued adaptability and enthusiasm. Below, you will read some news that captures the spirit and essence of our St. Michael’s House people. It is important during these changing times to pause and celebrate achievements and showcase how St. Michael’s House strives to being person-centered, professional, ethical and innovative. Thank you to everyone for contributing to this Ezine edition. Liz Reynolds, CEO - St. Michael’s House |

| Vaccination UpdateMany of our service users have received their covid booster vaccination in HSE run venues throughout Dublin. Some service users will be offered an additional vaccine if they meet certain criteria. Overall, the booster programme has been a very positive experience. St. Michael’s House worked in partnership with the HSE to ensure that our service users are vaccinated in a timely manner, as part of the community effort and enabling them to continue to live and work safely. Thank you to everyone involved. |

| Moyle Road gets ActiveCongratulations to our service users in St. Michael's House Moyle Road Day Services who completed a 10-week exercise initiative by Ireland Active. This exciting initiative encouraged older adults to get back 'Active'. Two groups from Moyle Road took part in a 1hour exercise session each week that worked on Balance, Mobility & Strength. The exercise class was carried out by the St. Michael's House Leisure Centre team. The two groups were very committed and worked hard throughout but mainly had fun and improved greatly on their movements ! |

| | SMH Disability Network Teams UpdateThe SMH Disability Network teams have been in operation since September 2021. Currently all families open to the service have been assigned a key worker as the main point of contact for their team. Over the next few months, the teams will be focused on putting a plan in place to address the needs of those children and families who are on the waitlist. The waitlists are extensive, so this will take some time. While they are doing this, the teams will offer new targeted online training interventions that will be available each month to families on the waitlist. |

This March our Annual National Campaign celebrates 15 years of encouraging reading for all. Each passing year, the campaign has grown in popularity with up to 200 companies, schools and clubs hosting events around the country and an average of 30,000 book exchanges annually. As we navigate through the next phase of the pandemic, our Bring a Book Buy a Book campaign remains a virtual event. We are hopeful that in 2023 we will see the return of our popular in-person events across businesses, schools and clubs. We are asking all book-lovers to Pass the Book in 2022 and support our Devices Scheme for people with disabilities. |
