This interactive installation, designed to help one find a certain kind of self-awareness:

"In psychology the mirror stage describes the formation of the Ego via the process of objectification, the Ego being the result of a conflict between one’s perceived visual appearance and one’s emotional experience. This identification is what psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan called alienation.

The interactive installation EGO re-stages and reverses the process of alienation by enhancing and deforming the mirror image by the movements of the users. Although an abstraction, it quickly becomes the self and reestablishes the tension between the real and the symbolic."

This "pleasurable troublemaker," a device intended to help one understand and develop one's sense of inner will. Built on research suggesting that willpower can be strengthened like a muscle through exercise, it forces a sort of workout by dispensing treats at infrequent intervals.

And this short story (500 words), a play on the classic idea that the principles of great stories are anagnorisis and peripateia: devices of self-discovery and realization.

As part of my own efforts in finding self-awareness, each Composure scarf is made and worn to reflect on the stories of people in my life with perspectives worth embodying. Scarves and stories at alwayscomposure.com

A brief note: In the interest of putting more scarves on more people, I've been planning more photography; quick things for Instagram with nearby friends & collaborators that we can make happen just walking around NYC over coffee / tea. Interested? studstill@alwayscomposure.com, consider using the subject line 'Instagram famous.'
