The Centerian is the Teaching & Learning Center's monthly newsletter. It's delivered to in-boxes across Academic Affairs and is designed to connect faculty and staff to TLC-sponsored workshops, seminars, activities, and events; it also recommends useful academic resources and teaching strategies through a variety of social media.

Evolving the TLC:
From Idea to Place

This summer, the TLC's IT Analyst, Jereme Patterson, transformed some old, basement storage space into a new, wonderland of electronica for CSC faculty. While the TLC Faculty Multiuse Room is not yet ready for prime time, substantial progress has been made; feel free to visit Old Admin 030 to see a little of the future of things to come. [Read more.]
TLC Workshops
for Busy Faculty

The TLC's mantra this year is "practical application." So workshops this fall are tailored to fit faculty schedules. They will also emphasize instructional technologies, engage faculty in CSC's Master Academic Plan (MAP), and culminate in the development of a work product that can be put to immediate use to enhance teaching and learning. [Read more.]
New Faculty Orientation Kicks Off!

The TLC welcomes Dr. Tracy Nobiling into its lair this year, as the New Faculty Orientation (NFO) Facilitator. Her role is to support new faculty in their first year of teaching. Tracy facilitated the NFO Kickoff on August 20 and, last week, hosted the first (of 12) informational meetings.  [Read more.]
Meet Alex, the TLC's New Grad Assistant

The TLC is very pleased to welcome its new Graduate Assistant (GA), Alex Graham, into the fold. Alex is a recent graduate of CSC’s business program and is currently working toward his MBA. He is interested in information technologies and hopes to learn as much as he can about instructional systems and applications. [Read more.] 
Turnitin Maintenance Alert

Please be advised that Turnitin will be down for maintenence next Saturday, September 19th, from 8AM to 12PM (Mountain). Faculty who use Turnitin are encouraged to modify assignment due dates in Sakai either before or several hours after the scheduled maintenance window. [Read more.] 
Seeking Seminar Speakers

In addition to its workshops, the TLC plans to schedule a number of faculty seminars this year. We have a few of you lined up so far, but could use some more volunteers. If you're passionate about research or pedagogy and are looking for a venue to share your ideas, contact Elizabeth Ledbetter (
Tutorials on Demand

We've all been there--"I've got to teach this thing tomorrow, and I know nothing about it!" Enter The TLC has set up accounts for faculty and staff in Academic Affairs to do some 11th-hour training in a phenomenally wide range of subject areas, both academic and technical.  [Read more].
