The Commoner is the Library Learning Common's bimonthly newsletter. It's delivered to in-boxes across the Chadron State College community and is designed to connect our patrons to LLC activities and events as well as recommend useful academic resources and research strategies through a variety of social media.

The LLC will help you get smarter in 2015. And all you have to do is get involved. Join our budding book club to discuss books and other media with folks across the CSC community. Or sign up for a seminar or workshop. Sessions on grading techniques using Turnitin are available in January!

The LLC recently received a generous donation of 150 children’s books from Beth Johnson in honor of Cathy Hall, a dedicated and gifted educator. Have You Read the Latest?

In 2015 the LLC will work with Baker and Taylor, a book wholesaler, to create a rotating library collection through one of the company’s leasing plans. This idea was championed by Pam Newberg, Technical Services Librarian, who is keen to improve upon CSC's circulation statistics while also revitalizing the library's outdated print collection. With the help of a small committee of faculty and staff who represent various departments across campus, the LLC will make more new titles available to its patrons in 2015 than it could through its regular purchasing practices. What's left to know about search? Electronic Resources Librarian Matthew Perrie is ready to tell you--in his penultimate installment of "Discovering Discovery." In this round, patrons learn about some exotic proximity searches with sexy alpha-numeric operators. Group-term searches are also on the agenda; if you don't fall in love with parenthetical punctuation, you will at least have renewed respect for it.  [Read more.]

The LLC Reports
