Effective Prompts & Ed-Tech Trends

Turnitin offers some interesting webinars this month; attend "Developing Effective Writing Prompts" (2/19/15, 11-11:45 am) or "Ed Tech Trends Worth Holding On To" (2/26/2015, 11-11:45 am) online, or watch them with friendly colleagues on the big screen in the Faculty Multiuse Room (LLC 111).
Book Holding -- It's a Thing

If you attended last week’s Faculty & Staff Information Fair (Thursday, February 12), you probably saw—and may even have signed up for—the LLC’s Book Holding Campaign. Book Holding is a social media project (#BookHolding) designed to promote reading awareness and to improve the Library’s flagging circulation rates.

It’s easy to participate, and you may even win something! You simply take a picture of yourself (a “selfie”) with one of your favorite books, then email your photo to the LLC. The LLC will post these photos on its blog, via its social media channels, and in and around its building.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the first wave of the Campaign. We can't wait to see what folks recommend in the next wave. [Read more.]
Book Ends Wins!

The LLC coffee shop has a new name–Book Ends–and a new supervisor–Lauren Emmett. The new name was selected by coffee shop customers out of four possibilities: Book Ends, Reader’s Corner, Campus Java, and the King’s Cup. Hours of operation are 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, Mondays through Thursdays, and 8:00 to 11:00 am on Fridays. Visit during "happy hour" for special pricing! [Read more.]
An Insider's Guide to Microfilm and Microfiche

Do you like perusing old issues of The New York Times? Do you enjoy local history as recounted in the back issues of small-town papers? Do you long to feel like the protagonist of a 1990s legal thriller researching an unsolved murder? If you answered "yes" to any of these, the LLC has the tool for you! [Read more.]
Rolfsmeier Reveals Secrets

"Secrets of the Sandhills--Relict Floras" is the title of Steven Rolfsmeier's lecture that will be delivered this evening (Tuesday, February 17, 7:00 pm, LLC 111). Rolfsmeier will discuss the geology and ecology of the Great Plains environment thousands of years ago. [Read more.]
