The Café Conversations Project
Cafés Creating Connections

How often do you see patrons in a café sipping on their drinks alone, or with only the company of a mobile phone?

As natural hubs for social interaction, cafés have all the elements needed for people to create connections and to share great conversations. With a little creativity, enthusiasm and preparation, cafés can tap into this opportunity to engage their customer base for a good cause.

Introducing The Café Conversations Project, which encourages cafés to plan a range of neighbourly actions or activities in the lead up to Neighbour Day.

We have developed an information pack with ready to use resources, ideas and inspiration to help get cafes started. These are all free when you register with The Café Conversations Project online and there are prize packs to be won.

We’d love to see cafes embracing The Café Conversations Project across the entire month of March, and hopefully on an ongoing basis for the rest of the year.  More than thirty cafés across Australia have registered already!
Not a café?
Why not do a ‘pop up’ café in your street or school or community centre?
Or perhaps just encourage your favourite local café to join in! Find out more

Children need friendly communities

More and more, research is showing that being kind to children is more than just a nice idea. Our latest Neighbourly Blog from Very Neighbourly Organisation NAPCAN explains why small actions do count and how every one of us can play a part in shaping the life of a child. Read the full blog here.

Neighbour Day Challenges Australia to Create Connections

Volumes of research and many of our past issues have revealed the extent and seriousness of Australia’s loneliness epidemic.

In 2020, Neighbour Day is looking to flip the loneliness discussion and start focusing on solutions. That is, we want all Australians to focus on the importance of belonging – to start people thinking about how they can put their energy into creating positive and meaningful social connections outside of their regular groups and relationships.
We’re asking everyone to connect with someone in their local community each week up until Neighbour Day on 29 March, and beyond.
It could be a small action - a few friendly words across the back fence, inviting an elderly neighbour in for a cuppa, organising a community get-together, or stopping for a chat when walking the dog.
Or it could be a larger scale gesture – organising a big neighbourhood BBQ, engaging the neighbours in a street fair, or putting on a community concert.
Go on! You know you want to!
