Very #CreativeConnections in Tasmania

Whilst Neighbour Day looked different this year, the neighbourly spirit remains strong in Tasmania.

In conjunction with Relationships Australia Tasmania, Healthy Tasmania invited Tasmanian organisations or businesses to enter the Healthy Tasmania Neighbour Day Community Challenge and to apply for $500 up to $5 000 for their community.

The Challenge encouraged people to take neighbourly action to build positive and sustainable social connections at this challenging time. We love the creative thinking that was adopted to find other ways to connect and engage with neighbours and communities – especially those that may not be face-to-face. Now more than ever, we know that every day can be Neighbour Day!

Community Challenge Projects 2020 included such things as beautifying towns, community gardens, a community space upgrade, getting people active, sharing kindness packages of food, plants and messages, finding the artist within, and connecting in new ways.

Preventing & Overcoming Loneliness

COVID19 and the resulting stay-at-home and social distancing directives are leading many people to experience increased feelings of social isolation and loneliness. To help you manage these difficult emotions, Relationships Australia Victoria has developed a new, free tip sheet for preventing and overcoming loneliness.

6 tips are explained further in the full tip sheet.

Healthy Relationships & Social Connection

Healthy relationships and maintaining social connection are so important. Keep an eye out for our new television community service announcements on SBS and ABC, featuring Neighbour Day Ambassadors Natalie Ahmat and Costa Georgiadis.

We recommend that people make themselves aware of the public health authorities’ advice and only do whatever neighbourly actions that are safe to do.
