Neighbour Day is right around the corner! On Sunday 26 March, communities across the country will come together over a cuppa, barbie or street party to get to know each other and build connections. This year’s theme is: The importance of social connection for the elderly.
If you don’t have any plans for Neighbour Day – why not simply knock on the door of an older person in your neighbourhood and say hi?
Be a part of the countdown to Australia’s biggest celebration of community! Next week will be counting down on all of our social media channels to Neighbour Day on Sunday 26 March. We’ll be sharing fun content, helpful resources, and stories of positive neighbourly connections. You can be a part of the fun with just the click of a button.
We know from a range of studies that social participation is positively associated with improved wellbeing for individuals, families and communities. Unfortunately, as we get older our social networks often diminish and the risk of feeling lonely increases.
That’s why this year, Neighbour Day is inviting all Australians to help highlight the importance of reaching out to older people in their communities who may be feeling socially isolated.
The annual Neighbour Day ‘Tell Us Your Story’ competition is on again! This year, to reflect our theme: The importance of social connection for the elderly, we’re inviting you to tell us your story of an elderly neighbour for the chance to win $400!
One of the ways you can get involved this Neighbour Day is to host a Good ‘Hoods street BBQ. Our friends at Good ‘Hoods are giving the first 200 to register their street BBQ via Good ‘Hoods a $50 supermarket voucher to meet your neighbours.
