Do come say hi at the opening of MUTATIONS where I'll show new work made at my Local Language Art residency. The opening is this Friday, which is "First Friday," so there’ll be a bunch of galleries open, they shut the street down for the party, and more.
Writing the book was such an all-consuming project that I feel like it’s been too long since I created new work. I’ve been sitting on my splices idea for over a year, wanting to explore the creative potential in these fertile knots, it feels great to finally do it. And to do it with the fine folks at LLA was such a pleasure.
Splices are among the most animal, fertile knots. As if the ropes are biomorphic organisms dividing and growing, consuming themselves and others. To me, they are palpably alive.
Also showing: a freshly-knotted series of ethereal Spinal Column mobiles, themselves corporeal creatures given life via a single knot and an unbroken 200-foot line.
Lastly, we'll debut the enormous Year of Knots archival pigment art print, the accompaniment to the physical artwork where I learned and made one new knot every day of 2016. The knots were photographed and posted daily on Instagram, resulting in a series of more than 300 individual knot photos.
Opening Friday Oct 5, 2018, 6-10pm, artist talk at 6:30 Local Language Art
477 25th St x Broadway/Telegraph in Oakland
Show runs to December 1
See you soon - Windy
PS I know, it's been almost a year since my last missive to you. Much has happened, and I'll send a fresh, newsy update mail in the next few weeks.
