Baycrest is launching a new care delivery model for people living with dementia
The interprofessional team at Baycrest's new Pamela & Paul Austin Centre for Neurology and Behavioural Support is trained to assess, diagnose and care for patients experiencing cognitive decline, dementia and behavioural challenges, movement disorders and multiple sclerosis. A new focus for the Centre will be general neurology in the geriatric population which will include a wide range of neurological diseases associated with aging. Read more about it here.

Michael Garron Hospital opens new women's withdrawal management services
This service is the first of its kind in East Toronto, and will support women-identifying individuals who are 16 years and older and who are in an acute state of intoxication or withdrawal from alcohol and/or other substances. This space opened to clients on Aug. 25. Read more about it here.

Sunnybrook Research Institute researchers create MAOI Diet Recipe Book for patients
Patients who take a form of antidepressants known as Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs) risk a dangerous spike in blood pressure if they eat foods that are high in tyramine. However, MAOIs are the best option for some patients with treatment-resistant depression. To help maintain patients' health while taking MAOIs, a team of Sunnybrook researchers led by psychiatrist Dr. Ken Shulman created a research-based cook book. Read more about this here.

Ontario's first cultural competency workshop for dietetics students created at St. Michael's Hospital
The workshop was created by Punya Ross, a dietitian with the St. Michael's Family Health Team of Unity Health Toronto. The workshop advises on healthy foods within the lens of preferences of certain ethnics groups. It also teaches dietetics students about cultural competency, the absence of which can perpetuate health inequities amongst marginalized and diverse communities. Read more about this here.

Timothy Chan is U of T's new Associate Vice-President and Vice-Provost, Strategic Initiatives

Fei-Fei Liu is the new Scientific Director of CIHR Institute of Cancer Research
The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) has appointed Liu as their new Scientific Director of the Institute of Cancer Research. Liu is a physician and researcher at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre of the University Health Network (UHN), and is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at U of T. Jan Seuntjens is the new Interim Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at U of T
Seuntjens takes over from Fei-Fei Liu who concluded her second term as chair on Aug. 31. Seuntjens is a Professor in the Departments of Radiational Oncology and Medical Biophysics in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at U of T. He is also the Head of Medical Physics at UHN's Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.
