A Message from our Co-Presidents

Dear WGSD Members,

We hope you have all had a wonderful summer! This August was special with the Summer Olympics in Rio! There were some incredible athletes to inspire us with their integrity, drive and dedication, including some amazing women (gymnast Simone Biles, sprinter Allyson Felix and swimmer Katie Ledecky to name just a few). In fact, no one flew home with more medals that the U.S. women athletes!  These women remind us of the incredible feats women can accomplish when they have the opportunity to do so.  Perhaps we will be watching a client of one of our grantees in a future Olympics!
With the summer behind us, we will be kicking off the fall with our September membership meeting. The Advocacy Team has partnered with the Women’s Policy Institute to plan an educational and engaging evening you will not want to miss. Details below.
Please also watch for updates regarding additional events in October, November and December, including a fall mix & mingle, a career workshop volunteer opportunity, an additional fall membership meeting, and our annual holiday party.
Thank you for all that you do to support Women Given San Diego.

WGSD Upcoming Events & News
We know that public policy is essential to create lasting change in our community - but what does that mean and how do you do it? Come learn from an amazing trainer, a seasoned advocate from the Women's Foundation of California, about how your individual voice and the collective voice of WGSD can help support important issues impacting our community.

The Advocacy Team is pleased to announce the Women's Policy Institute (WPI) To-Go Training where participants will learn about WPI and its philosophy, receive an overview of the California legislature and how a bill becomes a law, and will be given an opportunity to participate in a mock lobbying visit.

This informative and dynamic training will be held at 2-1-1 San Diego in Kearny Mesa on Monday, September 19th from 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM. For more information, please email Virginia Chambers or Jessica Rodgers.  To sign up, please click HERE.

The Community Engagement Team, together with Northrop Grumman's Connect1NG Program, will be putting on a Career Workshop for STARS Program participants at San Diego Youth Services. The date is confirmed for Wednesday, October 5, 2016 from 5pm - 7pm. Women Give San Diego members who would like to volunteer are encouraged to attend and share about their career paths.  Please email Courtney Brown  or Susanne Marczak if you are interested in learning more.  The event will be held in City Heights.

Casa Cornelia is currently hiring for two positions: a Bilingual Legal Assistant for the Victims of Crime Program (formerly the Domestic Violence Program) and a Part-Time Development Assistant.  Please click HERE for more details.

Casa Cornelia will be hosting its Ninth Annual La Mancha Awards on Thursday, October 13 from 6pm - 8pm at the Joan B. Kroc Institute of Peace and Justice at the University of San Diego.  At this event, Casa Cornelia honors the many pro bono attorneys, volunteer interpreters and translators, and other community supporters who make this work on behalf of victims of human and civil rights violations possible.
