The Power of Thoughts

In this issue:

- Healthy tips: Cherries

We have all encountered how thoughts affect our lives. The consequences of our attitudes and thoughts can be dramatic for not only our lives, but for those around us as well, nay the whole world! Therefore, it is very helpful to be conscious that as good thoughts have influence, so do uncomely ones. Sometimes it can be quite difficult to be positive all the time amidst the challenges life presents. We tend to agree, as the saying goes, that everything that transpires is a “blessing in disguise”. Ultimately, tremendous personal and collective “progress” can be achieved from everything that happens, however difficult it may seem at the time.

Let us not underestimate the power of our inner capacities! By putting conscious power in positive thinking and believing (with every cell of our existence) and having faith, our life-river will flow the way our life’s greatest potential can be fulfilled. We may or may not get what we desire, but we will definitely grow and evolve in ASTOUNDING ways, ultimately better than we could ever plan … and most importantly, with a deep, abiding joy! Doing activities which open the heart and keep us healthy, being with positive people with whom we resonate and visiting uplifting places are all very helpful ways to keep us focused.

Consciousness-Blossoms is here not only to feed you with tasty and nourishing food, but also with positive vibes to support you. We look forward to seeing you again and to celebrate your life’s journey, wherever it may lead!

Cherries
Healthy Dietary Tips

Sweet, juicy, and tantalizingly tart, cherries contain a number of healthful phytochemicals that may help prevent certain cancers and heart disease.

What's in it?

Anthocyanins. These plant pigments may reduce LDL ("bad") cholesterol oxidation and may also help prevent heart disease.
Chlorogenic acid. This phenolic compound may help thwart carcinogenic environmental toxins such as nitrosamines in cigarette smoke.
Cyanidin. A type of anthocyanin found in cherries, this compound may inhibit inflammatory enzymes.
Perillyl alcohol. Research suggests that perillyl alcohol reduces pancreatic, breast, liver, and lung tumors and may cause cell death in tumor cells without harming healthy cells.
Rutin. Rutin may enhance the activity of vitamin C and is believed to help maintain healthy veins and capillaries.
Quercetin.
A much-studied flavonoid, quercetin exhibits anticarcinogenic and antioxidant activities. Studies also link quercetin to a reduced risk for coronary artery disease and certain types of cancer Cherries are believed to contain impressive amounts of quercetin.

Add more to your diet
• Chop cherries and combine with scallions, green pepper, and celery. Toss in a spicy dressing and use as a salsa to serve with grilled meats or poultry.
• Add chopped cherries to your favourite brownie, cake, or cookie recipe.
• Add halved or chopped cherries to a savory stir-fry, stew, curry, or soup.
• Freeze cherry juice in ice-cube trays. Combine the frozen juice cubes with more cherry juice, cherries, and yogurt in a blender, and puree to make a smoothie.
•  Use dried cherries in place of raisins.

Health bites
Although there is scant scientific evidence to support what many people believe, that cherries and cherry juice can relieve the pain of gout, some research suggests that a substance in cherries called cyanidin has anti-inflammatory properties—an attribute that might certainly help reduce the swelling and pain of gout.
