Rabbi Weis joins NAACP in America's Journey for Justice March

Rabbi David Weis of Congregation Beth Israel in Northfield, joined fellow clergy and civil rights supporters for America’s Journey for Justice, a 40-day march that began in Selma, Alabama, on August 1, 2015, and which will conclude in Washington, D.C., on September 16, 2015. Rabbi Weis completed 40,383 steps (or 18.4 miles) starting in Montgomery on Tuesday, August 4, 2015, in the 100-degree Alabama humidity.

Rabbi Weis answered the call to participate from the Central Conference of American Rabbis (CCAR) Religious Action Center.  He was one of 150 Reform Rabbis to participate, marching with a Torah scroll that will be carried the full 860 miles.

America’s Journey for Justice was organizes by the NAACP, in conjunction with labor, civil rights, environmental justice, educational and faith-based communities. The 860-mile journey is designed to call attention to the need for an advocacy agenda that ensures a fair criminal justice system, free or corruption, and unfettered access to the ballot box, sustainable jobs and living wages, and equitable education. The march began in Selma in memory of the 50th Anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery March.
