Meet Sal, the Flower Guy
Sal the Flower Guy, Napa, CA
Sal, a Lebanese immigrant, started his floral shop, “Sal the Flower Guy,” in the early 1990s in downtown Napa, California, and purchased the property in 1996. His wife and business partner, Dina, has over 20 years of experience in managing retail establishments. In addition to floral bouquets, the store offers floral services for weddings, commercial decorations, proms, graduations, birthdays, etc. The shop is a well known and beloved establishment in the Napa community, where Sal and Dina have many regular customers.

Previously, Sal and Dina had an interest-only commercial mortgage, which would never be paid down. In 2017, Napa Branch Manager Peggy Chiprez met Sal and introduced him to Self-Help Federal’s Fresh Start Loan, a tool for repairing credit. Over time, Sal was persistent in working with Peggy until he and Dina could see the possibility of refinancing.
Sal then connected with Self-Help’s commercial lending team and started the process of applying for a commercial loan. Today Sal and Dina are making loan payments that not only reduce interest, but also pay down the borrowed principal.  Congratulations Sal and Dina!

How to Get the
Best Deal when Buying a Car
Buy new, buy used, or lease? These are just a few of the many decisions you’ll need to make before driving away with a vehicle. To help you prepare, our partner BALANCE, a nationally-recognized organization that provides financial education resources, offers useful tips. To make the process efficient and improve your chances of driving away happy, you will need to consider:
  • Your Needs – Think about your transportation requirements. Does your car need to be large enough for a family of five or small enough to fit in tight city parking spaces; tough enough to haul firewood or chic enough to drive clients around?
  • Your Wants – Your desires certainly play a part in the car buying decision. Make, color, options and style are all important to being happy with your final choice. Check car magazines and websites for ideas.
  • Your Spending Plan – It is easy to get carried away and end up with a monthly payment beyond your capacity. Your spending plan, not a salesperson’s opinion, should dictate your decision. Review your income and expenses to see what you have available each month to pay for a car and all the associated costs.
This information comes from a larger article on the BALANCE website--read the full article here. And if you’re a member looking to buy a car, visit your local branch to learn more about our auto loans, visit our website, or contact us at 877-369-2828.
