NDDA February Update

In January the DDA hosted its second event at Salto. A little more than a dozen people attended and were able to talk with DDA board members and each other about what downtown Nederland means to them.

At the DDA Board meeting we were updated on a handful of ongoing projects including the Marketing and Tourism Grant items, NedPeds (see below), and the Downtown Colorado Inc's (DCI) Technical Assistance program.  Board packets and meeting minutes can always be found on our Website.

The Board had its first session with DCI the end of January. In a 4 hour training and planning session, the board learned about a DDA's role in a community, how other DDA have worked and examples of projects and initiatives that we could undertake to help vitalize our downtown.  Over the next 6 months the DCI will be helping the Nederland DDA look at specific issues and areas in our downtown, identify how the DDA can address these issues and most importantly, how we can take the next round of funding and implement real improvements.

Town Hall has put out the pre-advertisement notices last week for both construction and Owner’s Rep work on NedPeds and have gotten a good amount of interest, which is nice. The actual bid announcement will go out in early March, as soon as CDOT gives us the go ahead.

We were delayed a year because flood work took over last year and our project wasn't large enough to compete with all the flood restoration work on highways and roads.

If there is an upside, in the last year Town was able to secure a grant to build the spurs that were left out of the bidding process last year. The spurs are pathways that run from Second Street up Snyder to the Highway 119 bus stop and from Second Street up East Street to the bus stop on East and 119. This ads more to the project in scope and money and should help make it more attractive to bidding companies.

If anyone has any questions please contact Katrina Harms

It’s been 3 months since the transition from Mutual of Omaha Bank to Centennial Bank.   We have focused on helping our customers adjust to the changes while we worked through adjustments of our own, such as new hardware, software and policies.  We were fortunate that the new policies have actually been a good adjustment!  Centennial Bank is committed to being a “community” bank. We were given permission to add Ace Hardware to our signage which gives them visibility from the highway and we can now make the upstairs space above the bank available to lease for office space.  There is approximately 1000 square feet just waiting for a new tenant.

The most recent (and generous contribution, in my opinion) is that Centennial Bank has offered to donate the bank land, adjacent to the creek, to the Town of Nederland.  This will aid in the Town’s plans to have a walking trail that travels east and west across town and Centennial Bank knows the importance of helping to make this happen.  We are happy to be working for a company that is willing to support the community!
