Today is the day that Caleb Williams is officially our new pastor. He will be full-time. He is very excited for the start of this new chapter. Please congratulate him when you see him Sunday.

Words From Pastor Caleb

Celebrate good times! Woohoo! Today, July 1, is my first official day as pastor here at Milwood United Methodist. Wow! Thanks to God, Pastor Billie, and everyone who helped make this appointment happen. I am humbled, yet filled with a sense that this is where the Spirit is leading us. 

Funny enough, though, this will probably be my last newsletter article for a while. Baby is due in a few weeks, and I’ll be headed on paternity leave until fall. I’ll be phasing back starting in September. Just because I’m at home, though, doesn’t mean life stops at Milwood UMC. Here’s a taste of what’s going on this summer: 

Work Zone: In honor of the work being done on I-94 and the work of rebuilding our lives post-pandemic, we’re kicking off July with a new worship series called Work Zone. Whenever I head on paternity, the series will be picked up by Pastor Marty Culver, who was pastor here from 2006 to 2011. In August, we’ll start a new series, including a week of leadership by Pastor Jess Davenport from Portage Chapel Hill UMC. 

Day Camp: We’re connecting with kids in our neighborhood by hosting a FREE day camp for kids K-5th from August 9-12. 

Block Party: Then on August 13, we’re throwing a party for the neighborhood, celebrating our kids and families with food and fun. 

Blessing of the Backpacks: August 29, before our kids go back to school, we’ll be blessing our students and teachers, as well as gathering backpacks of supplies. 

Kickoff Sunday: And finally, on September 12, it’s time to kick off a new program year with a fun worship service. Invite your friends and neighbors to come hear your new pastor. 

This is going to be a beautiful year together, building connections with each other, our community, and our god.

Worship Is Coming Back Inside!

 

The long wait is over! Starting July 4, Milwood UMC is returning to indoor worship! Thanks to everyone who has patiently waited, helping keep our church family healthy. 

Your reopening team is working hard to make sure we reopen safely and smoothly. When we do gather again, we’ll have some simple precautions:

  • Masks: anyone older than 2 who hasn’t been vaccinated (if you can do so safely), or anyone who just prefers to wear one. 
  • Seating: We’re at 50% capacity, so every other row will be blocked off. 

  • Tracing: everyone will sign in on your way into the sanctuary. 

  • Food: will be served outdoors, where everyone can unmask safely. 

  • If you’re feeling sick, please stay home. 

Plenty of other things will be back to normal. Bibles and hymnals will be back in the rows. Ushers will still be around to help with any concerns. And, our beloved choir will be back in the fall as usual. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our Parish Nurse, Tracey Hatch, at traceyhatch@sbcglobal.net

FREE TO GOOD HOME!
Darling Guinea pig complete with cage, accessories and some supplies.  His owner (Bella) is heading off to U of M and can't take him with her. And Grandma and Grandpa don't need to take on new pet responsibilities at this stage in life. He is a rather low maintenance pet and would love to show you how sweet he is!

Our Monthly Fresh Food Delivery is on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 We will once again be giving out pre-boxed food from South Michigan Food Bank, drive through style.  Please share this information with anyone you know who is food insecure at this time.
Food Pantry is open weekly to any who needs to supplement their food supply. Monday 4-6 PM  & Friday 11 AM - 1 PM we are giving out pre packed boxes at the Main East Doors. If you have time and can help with this very important ministry please email the pantry.
