Words From Pastor Caleb
Celebrate good times! Woohoo! Today, July 1, is my first official day as pastor here at Milwood United Methodist. Wow! Thanks to God, Pastor Billie, and everyone who helped make this appointment happen. I am humbled, yet filled with a sense that this is where the Spirit is leading us.
Funny enough, though, this will probably be my last newsletter article for a while. Baby is due in a few weeks, and I’ll be headed on paternity leave until fall. I’ll be phasing back starting in September. Just because I’m at home, though, doesn’t mean life stops at Milwood UMC. Here’s a taste of what’s going on this summer:
Work Zone: In honor of the work being done on I-94 and the work of rebuilding our lives post-pandemic, we’re kicking off July with a new worship series called Work Zone. Whenever I head on paternity, the series will be picked up by Pastor Marty Culver, who was pastor here from 2006 to 2011. In August, we’ll start a new series, including a week of leadership by Pastor Jess Davenport from Portage Chapel Hill UMC.
Day Camp: We’re connecting with kids in our neighborhood by hosting a FREE day camp for kids K-5th from August 9-12.
Block Party: Then on August 13, we’re throwing a party for the neighborhood, celebrating our kids and families with food and fun.
Blessing of the Backpacks: August 29, before our kids go back to school, we’ll be blessing our students and teachers, as well as gathering backpacks of supplies.
Kickoff Sunday: And finally, on September 12, it’s time to kick off a new program year with a fun worship service. Invite your friends and neighbors to come hear your new pastor.
This is going to be a beautiful year together, building connections with each other, our community, and our god.
