Billie’s Meanderings…

The month of May is so full of the theological common sense basis for the Christian faith and the celebration of home, city, nation and globe. All of it will reflect our stewardship both at home, in the community, and the church. Who are we when we think no one is looking or paying attention to what we say or do?? Hopefully our weather will be warm and balmy as we go outside to worship on the parking lot and the south lawn. Please attend along with a comfortable lawn chair if needed.
Since Easter we have been answering the question of “ where do we go from here?” as we focused on the basic praying styles of crossing our hearts, reaching inside, reaching forward and reaching up. Right now we are looking at where all of us take time to serve and volunteer. This is a good time for all of us to reexamine where we actually offer service with others. If anyone wants  to serve at church then call the church during the mornings of Monday and Thursday. Burt Bacharach wrote the piece of music “What the World Needs Now is Love Sweet Love” so we ask ourselves if we are serving in a place where our love is shown to each other. Or, do we just not do it? “Love the Lord Your God with all your heart, soul, and mind. And, your neighbor as yourself.” How are we all doing during this Pandemic by serving with love? Brush the dust off our love and find a way.
Georgia and I will be moving back into our home during May after being out of our home since the second week. The mold has been removed completely after the kitchen and utility rooms have been completely dismantled so we are getting estimates for the rebuild and will be rebuilding the wall and flooring in the kitchen sink along with all the counters and cabinetry. What  job!! But, Georgia’s disease of allergies to molds have been removed and her health will now improve. We have looking ahead to her health improvement. Thank you all for your prayers, food, and love during this period. Even I am improving.
If anyone would like a pastoral visit please know that I have had my vaccination.
Please get your vaccine shot. Please call me if you need a ride.

Milwood Church Family,

I am so honored and grateful that I will be appointed to Milwood UMC as the next lead pastor. Billie had this vision before I even joined this church staff, and he shares credit with the Spirit and with you all for making that vision a reality. If you’d asked me a year ago, I wouldn’t have guessed this is where I’d be, but God has been at work in me and in all of us.

Together, I hope we will come out of this pandemic stronger than we entered it: more connected to our neighborhood, more welcoming to kids and their families, and ready to follow God’s lead into the next phase of our shared ministry. I ask that you pray for me, as I am praying for you, and pray for this church. Something awesome is happening here, and each of us is going to be called to step out of the boat and onto the waves at some point soon.

I’d love to get to know as many folks as possible. I am fully vaccinated as of this weekend and ready to get out of my house! If you are up for meeting, whether that’s with a cup of coffee, over a beer, or even walking your dog, please know I’d relish the chance to spend the time getting to know you.
My deepest thanks for taking a chance on me. I promise to do my very best to lead faithfully among the faithful of this community.

Rev. Caleb B. Williams,

ABCD Here We Go

Last Fall, we started a process called Asset Based Community Development, or ABCD for short. We gathered a group of leaders to learn the theories and values of this approach to connecting with our neighborhood and nurturing the gifts that God has already put there. Now that the warm weather is here, it’s time for the next phase of this process, and here’s where it starts to get fun.

We’re using a three team approach to connecting with our neighborhood. First is our Prayer Team, getting together to wrap the whole process in prayer, lifting every interaction into God’s light. Second, we have a Calling Team, connecting with neighborhood businesses and organizations. And finally, it’s our Walking Team, hitting the streets and sidewalks having intentional conversations with our neighbors, learning their passions, fears, and gifts. Together, these three teams will help weave us more tightly into the fabric of our community, and give us a chance to nurture the God-given resources around us.

None of this can happen without your help, though. Please consider which of these teams the Spirit might be nudging you toward. If you aren’t sure which one, give me (Deacon Caleb) a call, and we’ll talk some more about which might be a good fit.

This winter, we claimed our identity as a neighborhood church. This summer, we make good on that promise. I hope you’ll join us in a season of life-changing ministry.

Deacon Caleb,, (231)313-9005
