Dear friends,

Does March seem far away? Not for us. We are working hard on organising the fourth Global Young Greens congress in Liverpool, UK! The congress will take place simultaneously with the congresses of the Global Greens, the European Green Party, and Green Party of England and Wales from Thursday 30 March to Sunday 2 April 2017. It will be the largest gathering of Green activists anywhere, ever, and will be defining our movement for many years to come. We are very excited to be part of it. But the most important question is:
ARE YOU IN?

May we introduce? The Prep Team:

The Prep Team for the upcoming congress is a diverse group of individuals from 8 different countries. Many of us are local activists or have been involved with the Greens on various levels for the past couple of years. We are excited to be part of #GYG17 and resolved to enable the participants to take the best out of it. Find out more about us here.

#GYG17 preparations up to date:

Since June, we have been working on contacting our member organizations, preparing the programme, securing funding and much more. Our goal: to make the congress as representative of the world's youth as possible. Given the congress location in Liverpool, delegates from Global South are likely to face increased obstacles to their participation. At present, we are concentrating our efforts on bringing down these barriers. Read below how you can help us make it happen!

In addition to that, a major project at #GYG17 will be restructuring and relaunching Global Young Greens, and we're running a consultation in advance of this. Let us know how Global Young Greens can meet your needs and the needs of your organisation by completing this short survey: http://bit.ly/GYGSurvey. For inspiration, take a look at our vision for the congress.

Ready to roll? Here's how you can support us:

1. Spread the word!
Tell your friends that #GYG17 is happening! Tell them that you are coming and why they should not miss out, too. Invite them on Facebook or share this newsletter with them.

2. Donate!
Financial contributions are indespensable to make the congress well representative of global youth. Individual donations will go primarily towards covering the travel costs of delegates from Global South. Read more about who we plan to fund here and consider supporting our work at: http://globalyounggreens.org/donate-now. If you wish to support a concrete organization or individual, please read more on the Buddy System below. Thank you very much in advance for contributing. Every amount brings us closer to our goal!

3. Comment!
Have tips and tricks on programme and speakers? Can you imagine putting us in touch with an interesting personality or organizing a workshop on your own? Feel free to contact: karolina@globalyounggreens.org.

Help us build up the Buddy System!

What is the Buddy System?

Through the Buddy System, we link delegates and organisations from the Global North with organisations and delegates from the Global South. On a one for one basis, organisations from the Global North try to raise funds to cover travel costs for delegates coming from Global South in their respective countries of origin.

Why do we need a Buddy System?

As a transnational network we strive for inclusiveness and a truly global representation. With the congress taking place in Europe this year, chances are high that only a limited number of non-Europeans will be able to attend unless we make a serious effort towards covering their travel costs. We see it as the responsibility of ours and also our members to ensure that all organisations get a fair chance to be represented at the congress. Apart from that, the Buddy System will enable us to put you in touch with interesting organisations and indiviuals from all over the world and start building friendships already before the congress.

I like the idea! How can I take part?

Great! First, get in touch with your own member organisation. Discuss which organisations you would like to support and where you can raise funds. Get in touch with us for further advice on who might be most in need and where to raise funds at: zuzana@globalyounggreens.org. Once agreed on who you can support, we will put you in touch with the organisation of your choice. We leave the next steps up to you but are happy to accompany you throughout the process with any advice or information you may need. Happy buddy-ing!

So. Excited as much as we are? Then see you very, very soon!
