Financial support applications re-opened for non-male delegates from Global South

Do you believe in equality? So do we. It is essential for us that we properly represent Young Greens across the world and of both genders. To redress the balance of applications we have received so far, we are re-opening applications for financial support specifically for young non-male delegates from Global South. If you fulfil the criteria, do not hesitate to fill the application form on this link by 31 December 2016 at the latest.
Please note that if selected, the financial support will cover between 80 % and 100 % of your travel costs. All other related cost (visa, registration fee, accommodation) will have to be covered either by you, your mother party or your member organization.

We highly encourage you to try to seek for additional external funding. Take a look in this brochure for more tips and tricks on how to raise funds for your travels to the congress. In case of any questions, contact

Let us make history next spring: make #GYG17 the most representative young Green gathering ever

Ever since the beginning of the congress preparations, it was clear to us that making the congress accessible for individuals from across the globe will be our utmost priority. How would a truly representative congress look like? Looking at the world population, around 60 % of delegates would be from Asia-Pacific, 16,5 % from Africa, 13, 5 % from the Americas and 10 % from Europe.
Are we at these numbers? Not quite there yet. So far, we have managed to secure some sort of travel support for approximately 60 individuals; be it through sponsorship from various foundations, mother party support, support from our member organisations, individual donations or direct GYG travel grants. Most of the registered delegates, however, are from Europe. With the congress taking place in Liverpool, non-Europeans are facing a major obstacle in finding financial resources for their travel.

Further support from Green parties, member organizations and individuals is thus crucial in making the representation well-balanced. With your help, we can make the congress truly representative, inclusive and Green. With your help, we can make history. Please take a look on how you can support us.
How to support #GYG17 in five easy steps
1. Donate to GYG
Donating is the most valuable form of contribution you can make at present. Financial contributions will help us cover travel costs of delegates from the Global South through individual grants. We are in touch with marvellous activist from some of the poorest regions of the world. And we really wish to enable them to come to the congress. Read more about how travel grants are distributed here.

2. Support a concrete organisation or individual
You wish to support a concrete organization or individual? We are happy to pair you up! Through the buddy system we link delegates and organisations from the Global North with their counterparts from the Global South. On a one for one basis, organisations from the Global North try to raise funds to cover travel costs for delegates coming from Global South in their respective countries of origin. Be it through direct donations from your members, collecting and selling used stuff like books or clothes or organizing a concert of your local band – we leave that up to you!

The buddy system is a great and unique opportunity to get to know delegates from across the world and start making friendships even before the congress. Please read here more on how the buddy system work and contact us for pairing at:
3. Ask your party to include young representatives in their delegation

Did you know that all countries can send a delegation of up to three individuals to the Global Greens congress? Please ask your mother party to consider including one young person in their delegation. This way, young representatives will get a chance to represent their organisation not only at the Global Young Greens congress, but also in the Global Greens or the European Green Party plenaries. Let your party know that Mongolia, Australia or Japan already are including young representatives in their delegation and why your party should not miss out too.
4. Spread the word
Tell your friends that #GYG17 is happening. If you already donated, let them know why you think young Green movement is worth their support. Forward this newsletter or share our posts on your or your organisation’s Facebook page or Twitter account. Spreading the word helps us raise awareness and gets us closer to potential donors, small or big. Check our Facebook and Twitter accounts here and here.

5. Share your tips and tricks with us
We have been in touch with a number of (Green) foundations from all around the world. Chances are, however, that we still may have overlooked some potential donors. Tips and tricks who to approach and how are always welcome! Please contact

For a complete list of our donors and supporters, please look here. Find here and there more information on how Green Parties and Young Green groups can support our work.

In this newsletter, we would like to particularly thank the German Young Greens for their generous support. Dankeschön, Grüne Jugend!
