Bishop Brookhart announces his intention to retire

June 14, 2017
To the Clergy and People of the Diocese of Montana,
With this letter I announce my intention to retire as IXth Bishop of Montana on November 1, 2018. By that time I will be in the sixteenth year of my consecration and will have turned seventy years of age. I believe that it is time for both the diocese and me to move on to the next chapter of our stories.
I also hereby call for the election of a new diocesan bishop for Montana. At the last diocesan convention we put in place a canonically defined process which will guide the process of finding the Xth Bishop.
As stated in both our diocesan canons and the canons of the General Convention the Standing Committee of the diocese will take charge of the election process. They have already had an initial training event in this task and are carefully working now to set things in motion. I will remain as diocesan and ecclesiastical authority until the day of my retirement, but both my staff and I will take no part in any part of the selection of a new bishop.
Serving as Bishop of Montana has been a single honor and privilege. I have often assured you of my love for and commitment to you, the people and clergy of this diocese, and that will continue in the months ahead. I will pray for you in the exciting and challenging work of electing a new bishop, and I beseech your prayers for me as I continue my duties.
Resurrection blessings,

C. Franklin Brookhart, Jr.
IXth Bishop of Montana

July 22, 2017 – Come celebrate with us as we break ground to remodel Brewer Lodge.  There will be a 10:30 Eucharist followed by a celebratory lunch & groundbreaking.  We are delighted to draw Enhancing Holy Ground, Camp Marshall’s Capital Campaign, to a close by breaking ground for the Brewer Lodge remodel project.  Our celebration takes place on the last day of our 2017 Senior High camp session.  Campers will help lead worship, and will help break ground as we give thanks for the generosity of more than 250 donors who’ve pledged to fund this project.

We, at St. James', Lewistown, observed the Blessing of the Quilts today.  It was beautiful with all the quilts and red for Pentecost.  I am thrilled to tell you we are sending 35 quilts with Tom.  I am so proud of my parish, and I know the children will feel God's love when they see and touch these quilts.  Thank you for the opportunity to serve Grace Camp!
