Sitka Farmers Market vendor registration

Vendor registration is open for the 2019 Sitka Farmers Markets, which take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays, July 6, July 27, Aug. 10, Aug. 17, Aug. 31, Sept. 7, and Sept. 21, at the Alaska Native Brotherhood Founders Hall. This will be the 12th season of Sitka Farmers Markets, and we plan to offer our usual fresh produce and a variety of other local foods, such as locally made candy, bread, seafood, and more. We also have music and other fun. We offer a youth vendor program for those age 12 and younger. And we match SNAP and WIC benefits up to $20 per market through a grant from the White Elephant Shop. To learn more about how to be a vendor, click this link. Nina Vizcarrondo (738-9301) will manage the markets for the third straight year, and Charles Bingham (623-7660) will assist. You also can email for more details.

Sitka Kitch offers cottage foods business class

The Sitka Kitch community rental commercial kitchen, in partnership with the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service, is offering a class about starting a cottage foods business from noon until 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, in Room 106 at the University of Alaska Southeast Sitka Campus. This class will be taught by videoconference by Sarah Lewis of the Juneau office of the UAF Cooperative Extension Service, and she will discuss the food safety rules and regulations for different types of food businesses. There also will be representatives from the Sitka Local Foods Network there to help folks register for the Sitka Farmers Markets this summer. Students who take this class and later register to have a food booth at the Sitka Farmers Market this summer will receive half off of the table fee for their first market. This class costs $10 and the funds raised support the Sitka Kitch. For more details, click this link.
