Supporting community and voluntary action across North Devon

Summer is well & truly here, accompanied with the typical British rain showers to cool it down!
This year's summer season is finally seeing the return of many events, festivals & activities across North Devon that haven't been able to run due to Covid & we're so pleased to see lots of people coming back together to be part of them.  Don't forget to register on our FREE community platform DEVON CONNECT to promote your community events & activities, if you haven't already.

In this month's newsletter, we're excited to tell you about the NEW Wellbeing Cafe's running in Barnstaple, to share the future Vision For Volunteering, as well as an opportunity to shape support services for the older generation across North Devon

As ever, we round off with upcoming dates for the diary with training, upskilling & funding opportunities.
Men's Chill & Chat & Wellbeing Cafe

Join Andrea, our Wellbeing Connector who is running these NEW wellbeing cafes in Barnstaple, in partnership with Barnstaple Alliance Primary Care & Devon County Council.

The feedback about the cafes has already demonstrated the benefits & support they've offered to a number of people.

We would like to spread the word about these sessions, so if you have a noticeboard for a poster or can promote them via your network, please get in touch with Andrea - contact details on the posters.

No need to book, just drop in & join Andrea & others for a FREE cup of tea or coffee & chat.
 Volunteering into the Future

As many of us know volunteers help to transform communities - whether it is a local community, religious or cultural community, or a community of those with shared interests, as people get to know each other and work together on things they care about, driving positive change and improving others’ quality of life.

Volunteering benefits the individuals involved, as well as wider society, nature, the climate and more. It builds our health, wellbeing, connection to others and wider purpose.

NCVO, Volunteering Matters, NAVCA, AVM and Sport England are all Vision for Volunteering Partners & have published the following Vision for Volunteering.

At the heart of the Vision for Volunteering are five key themes:
  • Awareness and appreciation of volunteering
  • Power
  • Equity and inclusion
  • Collaboration
  • Experimentation.
In each of these, they set out ambitions for what volunteering should look like and how this will make volunteers feel about their roles, by 2032. The Vision also includes a section considering how to define volunteering, a discussion of how volunteering is changing and evolving, and a description of how the Vision was developed.
