Supporting community and voluntary action across North Devon

Sun, sun, sun - hopefully you've been able to find a cool place to work or sit during the record high temperatures we've been experiencing over the last few weeks. 
Regardless of the weather, it's business as usual for a lot of us in the voluntary & community sector & as ever we are seeing more demand than ever for our support services.  We know how important your services are to local people.  Did you know you can promote them for FREE on our community platform DEVON CONNECT? The North Devon & Torridge Together Hub is available to help you shout about it!

In this month's newsletter, we're excited to tell you about our extended Wellbeing Café dates, local summer holiday activities as well as upcoming training dates & funding opportunities that can support your organisation.  Read on to find out more... 

☕Wellbeing Cafe - MORE DATES ADDED
Due to the really positive response to our NEW wellbeing café in Barnstaple, we're pleased to share some additional dates, aswell as combining it with the Men's Chill & Chat - which will continue as part of the Wellbeing Cafe for ALL

This café offers a space to come for a break, to sit, connect with others, have a cuppa & meet with our Wellbeing Connector -Andrea who can signpost you if required.
No need to book, just drop in.  Why not bring a friend?

This café is run in partnership with Barnstaple Alliance Primary Care & Devon County Council. 
Did you know that NORTH DEVON & TORRIDGE TOGETHER is your local DEVON CONNECT hub?

We are local, we support local & we know local - that's why we want you to join our FREE online community platform - it shouts about events, activities & volunteer opportunities we have locally. It also offers the chance to connect with other like-minded organisations & individuals.

Curious Creators Family Programme
Running Wednesdays throughout August


FREE summer holiday workshops for young creatives inspired by Ethel’s research and travels around Ceylon (Sri Lanka). Suitable for a range of ages, all materials are provided.


3 August: Indigo Shibori – Annabel Hill will be setting up an indigo vat in the gardens here at the Museum. Come along and explore the ancient art of tie and dye… Bandhani in India, Shibori in Japan. A morning and afternoon session will be held for children aged 7+. 

10 August: Eco Printing - Lizzie Mee will be offering a ‘print experience’, with an emphasis on nature. This will  be a drop in session for those aged 5+.

17 August: Get Weaving – Emma Rose will be offering three 90 minutes sessions. Here is your chance to explore the exhibition and then try your hand at weaving. Take home a mini woven panel. Most suited to children aged 7+. 

24 August: Textile Adventure - Come and make a coaster, trivet or placemat from recycled fabrics with Megan from Magpie & Hook.

This is a great way to recycle fabrics which would otherwise end up in the bin.

Magpie & Hook is a new shop owned by friends Megan and Tamsin who are passionate about crafts and recycling. They teach and host workshops in their colourful craft shop in the heart of Bideford.

Drop in sessions will be run between 10am-1pm and 2pm- 5pm, suitable for ages 5-16

Harmless are proud to announce that we are hosting our third online Suicide Bereavement conference to examine the practical application of working in the field of suicide bereavement, every Tuesday and Thursday between 6th of September - 29th of September 2022.

The Theme for this year is: Practical Applications: Working with Overlooked Communities

Growing Communities Fund

Calling all not-for-profit, voluntary or community groups, registered charities or social enterprises that are providing services or activities for the benefit of people and communities in Devon?

The Growing Communities Fund is intended to support proactive, effective, measurable, and sustainable actions to enable individuals and communities to build self-reliance and community resilience, reduce food and fuel inequalities and improve mental health and wellbeing and respond to the climate emergency.

The Growing Communities Fund will provide grant awards of between £500 and £3,000 (though we will enter discussions with applicants who have exemplary or innovative projects).

BeeZee Bodies are delivering a Free Men’s Weight Loss Programme for residents in Devon (funded by Devon Council) alongside One Small Step and Exeter Fit Fans. 
We have sessions starting in September, our service is online and here are some success stories:
We are hearing that many men are asking for weight management services in North Devon and thought there may be some interest among your communities.

NextEnergy, which owns several solar energy farms in the Southwest. NextEnergy is using our platform, BizGive, to find and distribute grants to community projects in the region.

NextEnergy Group is looking to support local community projects around six of its solar farms in Southwest England. Grants of up to £1,000 will be provided and NextEnergy is inviting local groups in the region to apply.

Programme Objectives:
Increase Community Involvement
Protect and Improve the Local Environment
Improve Sustainability of the Local Built Environment
Create and Improve Local Amenities
Create and Improve Local Infrastructure

We are looking for suitable candidates that have a Level 2 fitness qualification AND a Level 3 Exercise Referral Diploma/Certificate.
