Safe At-Home
Medication Disposal Day
and Rx Round Up Recap

The first Safe-At-Home Medication Disposal Day held in September was a great success with nearly 1,200 Deterra drug deactivation system bags provided to community members in Washoe County.

One month later, the Prescription Drug Round Up netted over 1,800 pounds of medications brought to area collection sites by community members.

If you missed either event and would like a free Deterra bag or to discuss alternative options for safely disposing of unwanted medications, call the JTNN office at 775-324-7557 or email outreach@jtnn.org. Please note that permanent drop boxes located at law enforcement agencies may have limited hours due to COVID-19 safety precautions.

Spanish PSA's

JTNN's marketing team worked with community members to create new public service announcements in Spanish to highlight the harms of underage drinking. Take a look below.

She's Back!

Whitney Pomi has returned to JTNN as Substance Abuse and Community Outreach Specialist. She'll work to connect people to area resources while partnering with the MOST team, Sparks Police Department, and the Washoe County Detention Services Unit. She's in the process of establishing JTNN as a naloxone distribution site in Washoe County. Welcome back!

All Coalition Meeting January 14 - Save the Date

The next All Coalition meeting will be held on January 14, 2021 at 10 a.m. via Zoom. JTNN's Comprehensive Community Prevention Plan will be reviewed in addition to other agenda items. The link and agenda will be provided in early January. All are welcome.

A New Parent Project Cohort Begins in January

The Parent Project's 10-week program aims to help parents of strong-willed adolescents ages 11-19 learn how to manage conflict in the home, manage expectations, and set rules and boundaries. A sampling of topics include poor school performance, alcohol and drug use, youth gangs, teen violence, and bullying. The class will be held virtually on Zoom from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday evenings beginning January 5 through March 9. Contact Britany at outreach@jtnn.org with questions. Register for the class here.
