Southern Wesleyan University’s annual P.B. Wood Golf Tournament will tee off on Oct. 3 at Smithfields Country Club in Easley. The tournament raises money for the Promise Fund, which supports student scholarships and the areas of greatest need for the University. The registration deadline is Sept. 29.

2016 SWU-CWC Gathering

A group of SWU-CWC graduates came to Central July 23 for a weekend of fun, food and fellowship. Southern Wesleyan’s Alumni Association and Ethan Cashwell, coordinator of alumni relations and special events, hosted a reception at Nicholson-Mitchell Christian Ministry Center; then it was on to Collins Ole Towne for dinner and a relaxing evening reminiscing in Collins Ole Towne chapel.

SWU alumnus Davey Blackburn (’08), right, was recognized by the Chicago Cubs baseball team July 30. Davey is holding his son Weston and is pictured with, from left, Jono Blackburn (’10), Tessa Blackburn (’13), Dave Blackburn and Brenda Blackburn. Also a baseball alum, Davey is the founder of Resonate Church in Indianapolis.
Danielle Broome ('12) recently received a promotion at Milliken & Company, a world-renowned chemical, floor covering, and performance materials company headquartered in Spartanburg. She is being promoted from marketing communications specialist for Milliken Chemical to marketing communications manager for Milliken Specialty Fabrics. She is a media communication graduate.
Bart (’13) and Emily Cone had a son, Kipton, born Aug. 7.
Phillip Fritts ('12) has been named senior communication consultant for Mission Health System.
Finley McKenna Mason was born Aug. 23 to Amber ('08) and Derrick Mason, weighing 5 lb. 8 oz. and 18 1/2 in. long. A biology graduate, Amber is the daughter of Rhonda Bracken, SWU accounts payable clerk.
Charles Tegen ('74) was awarded the 2016 Professional Development Award for his notable and extensive contributions to the National Association of College and University Business Officers. Tegen is the associate vice president for finance at Clemson University, and the husband of Deanna Tegen ('75), the accounting director in SWU's business office.

The 2016 Service of Ordination for the South Carolina District of The Wesleyan Church is scheduled for Sunday evening, Aug. 28 at 6 p.m. in the auditiorium of Newton-Hobson Chapel on SWU's Central campus. Those being ordained are: Deysi Rodriguez ('09), Justine Tegen and validation of ordination for Mireille Tanner. Justine is the wife of Matthew Tegen ('03) and the daughter-in-law of Charles ('74) and Deanna ('75) TegenDr. Wayne Schmidt, general superintendent of The Wesleyan Church, will lead in the ordination ritual and bring the ordination sermon. A reception/fellowship time will follow in the adjacent amphitheater. "All credentialed ministers are expected to be present for this service and to arrive at 5:30 p.m. in order to be included in the procession of ordained ministers. This is an open invitation to the South Carolina District constituency to attend this special service,” said Rev. Buddy Rampey ('69), S.C. District superintendent. This service is under the direction of the District Board of Ministerial Development, Rev. Tony Casey ('89), chair.
