On Tuesday, February 1, 2022, Children's Rosary groups in Shendam, Nigeria, united in prayer with children in Boone, Iowa, USA. During the first week of February, schools across the U. S. celebrated Catholic Schools week and one Children's Rosary group leader, Deb Frazenburg, at Sacred Heart School in Boone, Iowa, had the idea to reach out to another Children's Rosary group in Nigeria to see if the two could pray together. In coordination with Fr. Paul Miapkwap, arrangements were made for the 97 students at Sacred Heart School in Boone, Iowa, to unite in prayer with 310 students at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Shendam.
The children united in prayer of the Rosary at 10:00 a.m. in Boone, Iowa, and 5:00 p.m. local time in Nigeria.

In attendance for the Children's Rosary at Sacred Heart Cathedral was Bishop Davou Dung of Shendam as well as four priests, three Reverend Sisters, and ninety-five students of the Catechetical Training Institute.

Fr. Paul Miapkwap relates, “The children all knew they would be uniting in prayer with other children from the United States, but the experience of seeing them and actually praying with them was completely different. They were really encouraged!”
Fr. Miapkwap also recounts, “Our children were so excited to pray with the children of Boone, lowa[; it was] an opportunity to see each other and pray together showing the Universality of the Church. They pray for more opportunities to be united with other children in different parts of the world.”

Deb Frazenburg also had an encouraging message. “This experience was impactful for our children here in the US. It was a joyful event that has invigorated us. One of my students even asked if we might increase the frequency of our Children’s Rosary meetings after seeing the children in Nigeria. When our students heard some of the schools in Shendam have a Children’s Rosary daily, it inspired us to want to meet more often.”

The National Catholic Register also reported on this unique prayer event. The complete story "Children's Rosary Unites Children in Africa and America" can be read HERE

The Children's Rosary at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception Turns Nine!

The Children's Rosary at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Waterbury, Connecticut, USA, began meeting in December of 2012. They meet monthly on the first Saturday of the month at 3:30 p.m. It is beautiful to see their witness of faithfulness. They continue to meet monthly and many graces have been felt over the years. Often we show pictures of new groups forming, but we would also like to feature the groups that formed years ago and continue to meet. We thank the group leaders who have helped lead this group and the children who have attended.

Upcoming Project

We are beginning a new project: a Children's Rosary Cookbook. After an Advent and Christmas contemplating the Nativity, there was a deep appreciation for the beauty one finds in simplicity of life. This cookbook will embrace this simplicity and the joy one finds in cooking foods that are grown in one's home garden. We are looking for tried and true family recipes that use items from the garden. One can imagine recipes that include fruit, veggies, or herbs available from the garden such as in salads, spaghetti sauce, pesto, meat dishes, soups, baked goods, etc. The picture above was sent to us from a member of the Children's Rosary in California. Her submitted recipe was a tomato, cucumber, and avocado salad.

This cookbook will also celebrate the many different people who have helped the Children's Rosary and/or participated in the tapestry of prayer. If you are interested in submitting a recipe, we can send you the format for the recipes. Photos are not required. Please email Blythe at blythe.kaufman@gmail.com
On February 18, 2022, two hundred and twenty Children's Rosary books in Spanish were sent to Mons. Juan Ignacio González, the Bishop of San Bernardo, Chile. These are to help his ongoing efforts to help spread the Children's Rosary in his diocese. Rosaries have already been sent to him.
