Introducing Nayiri (Nye-Ree)!!
Nayiri is a powerful, authentically Armenian name used by any gender.
Historically, Nayiri has been used interchangeably with the name Armenia. In official documentation, the Kingdom of Urartu (590 BC) is referred to as the lands of Nayiri. The literal translation is the land of canyons or river. There are too many different ways to spell Nayiri for me to list here. I’m going with the Nayiri.com version.
The background in this illustration is inspired by patterns in Armenian tapestry and architecture.
I drew her pencil sketch a year ago this week. Sometimes it takes that long to gather the inspiration to finish a piece. This one literally woke me up yesterday and I worked on it almost around the clock. Hope you like her as much as I do.
