2020 Cornell Hotel Sustainability Benchmarking (CHSB) Index Report

The report finds that hotels around the world have decreased carbon emissions by 10% since 2015. This year, more than 14,000 hotels reported their energy, water usage, and greenhouse gas emissions for the index.

LODGING SECTOR UPDATE
With slightly higher hotel demand after Thanksgiving, U.S. occupancy “improved” to 37.4% during the week of November 29 through December 5. With a tougher year-over-year comparable, however, the country’s 58.4% RevPAR decline was its worst since late June.
Countries in Europe have shown a “second wave” of hotel closures coinciding with lockdown measures around the continent. While this latest dip is much smaller in scale than what was recorded in Q2, the impact could extend if case containment is not successful.
North American Cancellations at All Time High, Europe Fails to Respond to Vaccination News
"The latest edition of the Pulse Report, which tracks data from November 16 - November 29, shows there’s been a huge amount of cancellations in North America over the last two weeks as new restrictions are introduced in Nevada (which accounts for a major portion of bookings for the NA market) and Los Angeles goes into lockdown again. 

EMEA markets continue to suffer under the effects of various lockdowns and despite the first vaccinations being rolled out on December 8, the data hasn’t shown much to get excited about. However, interest in travel into the Latin American region over the next 12 months has shown a steady increase, whilst over in APAC, new bookings have stagnated somewhat. "

U.S. flips to positive hotel profit as Europe backslides.
"The U.S. in October shed the ignominy of being the only global region to have not recorded a positive month of profitability since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The country finally reached gross operating profit per available room (GOPPAR) above $0, but at $5.43, it was still down 95.5% compared to the same time last year. And though the U.S. climbed back into the black, Europe regressed, backsliding to €-5.06 after two consecutive positive months, as the Middle East and Asia-Pacific remained above water."
